Vera star Riley Jones said 'and that's it' as the Brenda Blethyn series wrapped up and a co-star departed.

Following the conclusion of ITV's Vera thirteenth series, cast members said their goodbyes, leaving viewers to wonder if there will be another season. The successful detective drama based on the character DCI Vera Stanhope, played by Brenda Blethyn, began back in 2011.

Over the years, we had actors like Julia Sawalha, Emily Kathryn, David Leon, and Jake Lowe adding spice to the series. Riley Jones, who portrayed DC Mark Edwards since day one, took to social media to bid farewell once the final episode aired. He shared a heartfelt thank you message for loyal viewers and his acting colleagues.

Sharing a sweet picture with some fellow Vera actors, Riley said: "And that's it for #Vera series 13. Thanks for watching and for all the kind words. As always so proud to be part of this amazing show and to work with the best in the business."

Kenny, who depicted DS Aiden Healy, called it quits on the show in 2023. Upon confirming his exit, he extended his sincerity: "I want to thank everyone who's made this amazing time so joyous, ITV, Silverprint, all the brilliant cast and crew BUT of course my buddy and inspiration Brenda Blethyn."

Kenny said: "The perfect leading star who I owe so much to. I feel lucky to have you as a friend, you make me howl with laughter and have been a rock for me over the years. I can't thank you enough."

David shared his hopes for the TV show Vera to keep going even though Brenda, the main star, said there might not be a new season. David said: "Vera will continue for as long as the demand for it remains and Brenda feels like she can continue to surprise herself and be challenged by it. She puts so much into it, and it is an exhausting shoot. In the past usually filming four feature films back to back."

He also said: "I think one of the reasons Vera has endured is you have these films that usually drop at the beginning of the year, and you are left as an audience wanting more. We'll just have to wait and see if there will be."
