Tom Aspinall accepted a fight against Stipe Miocic for UFC 300 but has accused the former champion of turning it down.

Aspinall, who currently holds the interim UFC heavyweight world title, has been pushing for a fight against Miocic or Jon Jones in recent months. The UFC is holding out for undisputed champion Jones to recover from injury to make a fight between him and Miocic that is expected to serve as both of their career swansongs.

"While we are talking about Stipe Miocic, my manager was contacted by the UFC asking if I’d like to fight him on April 13th," Aspinall tweeted. "I, of course, accepted. A little while later we were told that Stipe doesn’t want to fight me, and he is only interested in fighting Jones.

"Believe it or not I respect Jon and everything he has done. So impressive. I wish him all the best in his recovery and return against Stipe. On that note. I will stop crying, accept it ain’t gonna happen and enjoy the fight that me and all the other fans want to see. Legend vs legend for the heavyweight title. Maximum respect guys. Yay."

Jones was due to defend his belt against Miocic at UFC 295 last November but suffered a pectoral injury that cancelled the fight. Aspinall was drafted in to fight Sergei Pavlovich for the interim belt as he knocked out the Russian on just two weeks' notice. Jones has told Aspinall to wait in line for a shot against Miocic as their fight has been in the works for years.

"My Stipe fight was booked well before yours came along, you weren’t even the back up fighter.. Trust me you’re the one who is coming around here with the inflated ego and entitlement. That intern championship means absolutely nothing if you seriously haven’t noticed yet. The UFC, Stipe and I have unfinished business, it’s really just that simple," Jones wrote.

"Forget all the other stuff about titles and resume etc. I just think I can beat you in a fight mate, but if you don’t want to, I won’t keep chasing you," Aspinall replied. The Brit could be forced to wait until the summer to defend his interim belt, with a Manchester event rumoured to take place in July.
