Riddles and brainteasers are fantastic at keeping your brain sharp and active - and it’s always more fun trying to solve them with friends. Now a tongue twister has gone viral on social media with millions of people left utterly baffled by the words.

Shared thousands of times on TikTok, user Joe Mele revealed he’d put the question to his mum, dad, and girlfriend with hilarious reactions from all. Showing them sat at a table, he asked them: “There are 30 cows in the field and 28 chickens. How many didn't?”

Listening to the riddle it was clear they all found it frustrating, with his dad especially finding it impossible to understand. Attempting to help them, Joe said it again slowly.

After a few seconds of thinking his mum started smiling, indicating that she understood the riddle and had the answer. She told him: “I think I got it. You want me to tell you the answer? Yeah, 10.”

Confirming she had indeed got the correct answer, Joe’s dad still looked baffled and said it again, “There are 30 cows in the field, right. And 28 chickens. Right. How many didn't? That's 58 altogether. How many didn't? It doesn't make sense. How do you get 10 out of that?”

While Joe’s dad didn’t get the correct answer in the video, those watching had a mixed reaction with many people left bewildered by the riddle. One person wrote: “After two minutes of using my brain I finally get it. So it 10.” And another user added: “Can someone explain to me pls. Baffled.” If you’re still figuring it out, look away now as the answer is about to be explained.

Sharing their solutions to the riddle, one person explained: “Not 28 but 20 ate. Then you will understand the riddle. So ‘there are 30 cows in the field and 20 ate chickens’. How many didn't?” Did you get it? Let us know in the comments below.
