A student has been left heartbroken after discovering her partner started cheating on her with her best friend shortly after she moved away to college. The 29-year-old was given a heads-up by her sister who saw the unfaithful pair together, looking guilty, so the wife logged into her man's phone and found incriminating texts.

Writing on Reddit, she said she sent him screenshots of the texts and also made a Tinder account for herself and started talking to a guy, eventually planning to meet up, and she took screenshots of that interaction and sent those to her husband too. This resulted in her unfaithful partner begging, "please baby, don't do it".

He also messaged her to say that if she slept with anyone else then their marriage would be over. But as time progressed, the scorned woman found out more about what had been going on with her best friend and her man. She said that her husband tried to explain, but what he said made the whole situation "much, much worse". She said: "I live in another city for my last semester of school. It was something that we both believed 'we can manage' and let’s face it, real couples who share real love do manage it."

She told other users of the popular site that she visits home every other weekend and he comes to her every other weekend. The weeks she has lectures that don’t require a physical presence she stays with him and does them online. She said she knew it was going to be hard because it is hard to be apart from your loved one.

The woman added: "But never did I think that he would cheat and use being 'lonely' and missing me as an excuse, but that was his excuse. That this was harder than he expected and that he missed me all the time. He met my best friend by coincidence. Then it happened. All because he missed me.

"Can you imagine leaving your home and the people you know and love to be stuck in a city where you don’t know anyone and have no family and friends and read your husband make that excuse?" She recounted how she called her best friend’s husband and told him everything. She only did it after she had found out everything because it would ruin their marriage too and they have two children.

He was shocked and devastated but also thankful. She said she heard he had moved out with his children and the only text she got from the best friend was to tell her she was "vindictive and not to worry. Her husband loves her and that I didn’t succeed in my revenge".

She added: "I ended up meeting the Tinder guy for drinks. I shared a picture of our drinks on an Instagram story and made sure that his arm showed. My phone went mental with texts and calls from my husband (over 100 calls and 100 texts). So nothing happened, eventually it will. I know that I will never hurt my husband the way he hurt me because I don’t believe he ever loved me like I loved him. He hurt me because I love him. I hurt him because he loves himself."

Other users of the site were supportive of the action she took, with one saying: "Astonishing. Husband cheats and his argument against his wife is telling that he won't be able to forgive if she sleeps with someone else?' Another poster said: "My husband and I ended up having to be apart for five months. Two completely different states over 14 hours away and we didn’t have the financial means to visit each other.

"We missed each other terribly and felt so down and depressed many times over. Cheating never crossed our minds. I read this to my husband and his exact words were, 'That makes no f****** sense. Holy shit how can you use a defence like that? You missed her so much you slept with someone who isn’t her? Yeah ok, he’s just a pig."
