Alex Jones overcome with emotion on son's birthday after The One Show absence

Alex Jones was emotional as she took a moment out of her day to reflect on the fact her young son is growing up fast.

The 46-year-old host of the BBC’s The One Show is a proud mum-of-three - sharing sons Teddy, seven, and Kit, four, and daughter Annie, two, with husband Charlie Thomson. Teddy celebrated his birthday with a party, and Alex also a snap of balloons in their family home - with a giant silver seven hanging in the air alongside a large football-shaped balloon.

Taking to Instagram Stories on Monday, Alex hinted that she is struggling to accept the fact her eldest child is growing up. After sharing the balloon photo with a caption stating “The years are flying by”, the TV star shared an emotional message as she thought back over the seven short years that had passed since she had become a mother.

Addressing her fans, Alex began: “Hello. Happy Monday. I’ve come out for a little walk.” Taking a seat in the sunshine and hiding behind a large pair of sunglasses, she continued: “I'm just sitting here enjoying the view. But I feel really reflective and I think it’s because Ted turns seven today and we had a party with all his class yesterday and it was brilliant but it was chaotic. You don't really absorb anything."

Taking a deep breath, Alex went on: "I've just sat here looking at the clouds go past thinking, wow. They tell you to absorb it and hold on. Their childhood goes in a flash but of course you do. You hold on so tight and still there's nothing you can do about it to slow time down. This is very reflective, very deep for me. I just thought lots of other parents would probably say the same."

Alex then went on to share details of how she would be celebrating her son’s birthday. She said: “We're going for burgers after school. I've taken the day off and then we're going to see Wonka. It's all good and I feel super happy and grateful to have him and his brother and sister. But it's a funny old thing. Isn’t it? It’s a funny old thing.”

Alex has been married to Charlie - who is an insurance broker from New Zealand - since 2015 when they got married at Cardiff Castle on New Year’s Eve. Taking to Instagram this New Year, the TV host shared a rare snap of herself and Charlie posing together.

She wrote at the time: “Blwyddyn newydd dda/happy new year from us to you. Celebrating a new year and 8 years of marriage in our favourite place. Hope you’re all cosy and happy. See you soon.”
