Death In Paradise bosses have offered an update on when it will return - as angry fans fumed over a 'delay'.

The BBC has aired a brand new trailer tonight to tease the return of the much-loved detective drama, which sees DI Neville Parker - played by Ralf Little - battle a whole new host of seemingly impossible-to-solve cases. With the help of his team, DI Parker will try and get to the bottom of the murders plaguing the fictional island of Saint Marie.

The show usually airs its new series in January, but fans had yet to hear when it was coming back, leaving them worried it might never come back. However, tonight on the BBC, a trailer was aired to say the show was 'coming soon'.

"Good to see that the new series of #DeathInParadise is starting soon. I was starting to worry it had been forgotten about," one fan wrote, whilst a second added: "Please stop teasing us and just tell us when the new season is starting."

Over the last few days, fans had been growing concerned it might never come back. One wrote: "Hey, where's @deathinparadise? Historically it had already started its run by now. #deathinparadise," with another sharing: "Hi all, Any idea when Series 13 of #DeathInParadise is airing? Need my fix of Saint Marie." A third penned: "I need to know when the new season of #DeathInParadise is coming because I've re-watched all 99 episodes in January alone and they still haven't announced it."

Ralf Little has teased what fans can expect from the new series - and if Neville will find himself in more trouble.

Speaking about what fans can expect from the new series, he said: "More of the same, the stuff that we know and love. Puzzles and mysteries and Neville being a little bit hapless in most areas of his life but when it comes to solving murders, absolutely bang on it.

"We're going to try and pick up with the tone at the end of series 12. We really tried to push the boat out with series 12 in terms of, not just solving a mystery every week and moving on but over the course of a series, really trying to find challenges for the main characters, trying to find things for them to overcome emotionally."

He added in an Instagram live: "Neville was faced with his biggest ever challenge, he was sent to prison and he was framed. So we took a bit of a leap with that last year and it worked out really well and people seemed to really enjoy it and we thought we made a really good show. So, there's going to be more of that this year, more challenges for the characters."
