Love Island bosses impose 'ban' on host Maya Jama during filming in South Africa

Love Island bosses reportedly handed host Maya Jama a 'ban' on flying back and forth to the UK while filming the ITV2 programme.

ITV was said to have been 'mortified' by Maya's previous tendency to hop on frequent flights to the UK from South Africa while filming the series last year. The gorgeous presenter has shared glimpses into her lavish flights with her Instagram followers, including the meals she tucks into while in the air.

The channel has reportedly changed the rules of the show to stop the 29-year-old former radio DJ, who shows up to the villa to host for a short amount of time, from leaving South Africa until the series ends. It takes 12 hours to fly between Cape Town and London.

It comes after ITV said they wanted to 'focus on the little changes that make a big impact' in their work to 'tackle the climate crisis'. They said on their website: "Little changes you can make, here are some actions that we are taking at ITV that we can all do at home too."

And now, a source claimed the channel was 'mortified' by Maya's flights. They said to MailOnline : "ITV was mortified when it became apparent Maya had been jetting across the globe with her hairdresser, make-up artist and stylist. This year there is absolutely no chance of her being able to go anywhere."

An ITV spokesperson said: "Love Island aims to achieve the highest standards of sustainability both on and off screen and our efforts have been recognised by achieving Bafta's 'albert Certification' standard, which is a requirement for all ITV shows. We are entirely committed to tackling climate change and championing sustainability, and we always seek to influence our audience on how to live life in a sustainable way, through initiatives such as our pre-loved fashion partnership and reusable water bottles.

"Additionally, this series, the Love Island Villa location generates its own electricity via solar panels and wherever possible we use local crews and local suppliers to lower our carbon footprint." It comes after Maya recently opened up about having her sights set on a career away from the screen. Should Maya go ahead with her new move, fans could see her and her boyfriend Stormzy work together. But she's also revealed that it won't be any time soon due to prior commitments.

Taking to her Instagram, Maya shared a stunning selfie with her 3 million followers, showcasing her natural beauty alongside the caption: "Decided I wana DJ again, Ill star next summer though cause this year is all booked up already (sic)." In a follow-up upload, she added: "I posted it so I have to stick to it."

In the posts, Maya went make-up-free as she gazed towards the camera. Her glossy raven locks were styled into natural waves as she offered a pout towards the lens.
