Crystal Hefner has been opening up about life in the Playboy Mansion as she sets about promoting her new tell-all memoir.

The widow of sex industry icon Hugh Hefner has given an interesting insight into life in the legendary house - and it may not be as glamorous as fans of Hugh's Playboy brand previously imagined. Crystal, 37, met Hugh when she was just 21 years old back in 2008 and he was 82.

She has now described in Only Say Good Things how she indulged in an orgy with Hugh and several other women on the first night they met and how that encounter led to her spending the next nine years living with him and ultimately becoming his chief girlfriend and subsequently his wife. Crystal married Hugh in 2012 and remained by his side until he passed away in 2017 after developing sepsis from a minor infection.

Crystal became an integral part of Hugh's life which involved an endless string of parties, movie nights and even a reality TV show. Hugh's life reportedly cost $10 million a year to run and his home had helpers on hand to provide anything he or his harem desired. Crystal described to the Daily Mail: "There was a zoo department, a scrapbook department and a video department. Security, his office staff, housekeeping. He had 3,000 books documenting his life because he truly believed that he was someone people would be studying for centuries."

In her memoir, Crystal details how she and the other ladies in Hugh's life were paid a weekly allowance to keep themselves looking in line with a certain beauty standard. She underwent surgery on her nose and breasts and had bleached white blonde hair to fit the aesthetic.

She described how Hugh would take Viagra some nights in order to have sexual encounters with his girls who would then perform for him in exchange for their $1,000 a week payment which he would always pay them in cash. Crystal has described how Hugh "seemed to take a long time on purpose, laying down each bill, neatening the stacks,’ and that he would make the girls wait "and wait we did, hands clasped like good girls."

While people may associate the mansion with glitz and glamour it didn't mean that there wasn't flaws in the residence - and one major one was a black mould problem. Crystal recalled how the centre of the mould problem was in the air vent above her room and elaborated further saying: "People think that the mansion is such an incredible place – and I did in the beginning. When you realise everything’s fake and it’s raining and it’s dripping inside and it’s just like... this place is gross." She added how she felt that she couldn't relax in the mansion and felt like she had to be “on” all the time "for ten years – 24/7."

Only Say Good Things by Crystal Hefner is released on January 25.
