Princess Kate shouldn't recover in family home as expert says it's 'not ideal'

A royal expert has warned that the home Princess Kate shares with Prince William in Windsor may not be a good place to continue her recovery.

The Princess of Wales underwent planned abdominal surgery earlier this week, she is currently in hospital where she is expected to remain for up to a fortnight as she recovers. The 42-year-old is then expected to continue her recovery at Adelaide Cottage, she moved to with Prince William and their children in 2022 in the heart of the Windsor estate.

However, one royal expert has warned that the four-bedroom property is "not the ideal place" to continue her recovery. Royal correspondent Michael Cole told GB news: "She is going to be in hospital for up to two weeks as she improves, and I hope that she does very rapidly."

He added: "...after she fully recovers she will convalesce initially at Windsor at Adelaide Cottage where they have a house in the grounds. They will stay there I think because the children are at school and she will want to be close to her children."

Revealing a little-known detail about the home, Mr Cole said: "It's not an absolutely ideal place. A former tenant of Adelaide Cottage was Mrs Rosemary Townsend, the wife of Group Captain Peter Townsend, who famously had an affair with Princess Margaret.

"And she wrote in her memoirs that it was the coldest place she'd ever encountered in the whole of her life. So maybe not the best place to start feeling better, particularly in this quite cold winter that we're enjoying at the moment."

Kate is due to stay in hospital for 10 to 14 days, according to a statement from Kensington Palace on Wednesday. The mother-of-three will not be returning to royal duties until "after Easter", the palace confirmed.

The statement did not go into detail on Kate's health but said the surgery was "successful", the palace confirmed. Prince William was seen visiting his wife in hospital on Thursday, January 18, however Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have not yet had the chance to visit their mother.

William is reportedly taking some time away from royal duties to care for their three children, to try and keep a sense of normality for them. He is said to be keen on continuing to do the school run to ensure normality for George, 10, Charlotte, eight, and Louis, five.
