A manhunt has been launched for an attacker who sexually assaulted a schoolgirl in a Primark store.

The 16-year-old girl was attacked on Monday at the shop on Corn Market, in Derby city centre, at around 4.50pm.

Police have said they are investigating the incident and are appealing for information from the public.

In a statement, the force said: "We have received a report that a 16-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by a man at the Primark store on Corn Market at Derby.

"The incident is believed to have taken place in the afternoon of Monday, January 9, and was reported to us just before 4.50pm the same day."

Police are looking at CCTV in the Primark store as they gather evidence.

A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Police added: "All the normal enquiries are being made for a case like this."

Anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the incident, is asked to contact Derbyshire police on the details below, stating the reference 23*16781.

Police reportedly said they do not believe the man is a Primark employee or has any connection to the store.

Primark confirmed that they have CCTV footage that has been reviewed and they are supporting the police investigation.

A Primark spokesperson told DerbyshireLive said: "We are very concerned by reports of an incident which took place on the shop floor in our Derby store on Monday.

"As soon as we were informed we reported this to the police, have reviewed CCTV footage and will do all we can to support with the investigation.”
