Burglars broke into the home where Bronson Battersby and his dad were found dead and stole money and medication, according to the property owner.

The two-year-old was tragically found dead, curled up next to his dad Kenneth, 60, in a home in Skegness, Lincolnshire. They were found dead on January 9, but it is thought that Kenneth had suffered a heart attack in the days after Christmas, meaning little Bronson was stuck with no food, water or help.

A Lincolnshire County council spokesperson previously confirmed to the Mirror that the tragic discovery was made by a social worker and the property’s landlady. At the time, Bronson was under children’s services care.

On January 2, council social workers tried to visit the property, but got no answer. So they tried again two days later, but once again received no answer. Police were called but it was another five days before the bodies were discovered on January 9.

It has now been confirmed to the Mirror that in the days after the youngster and dad were found dead, someone broke into the property. The crooks are believed to have broken in through a bedroom window between January 10 and 12.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police told the Mirror: "At around 12pm we received a report of a burglary at Prince Alfred Avenue on Friday, 12 January. The incident took place sometime between the 10 January and the 12 January. The offenders are thought to have used a bedroom window to gain entry. Our investigations are ongoing. If you have information which could help us, call 101 and quote the number 24000024117."

The property's landlady Maria Clifton-Plaice told MailOnline that money and medication were stolen from the property. She said valuable items weren't taken, but when she looked in the cupboard where Kenneth kept rent money, it was gone along with some medication.

Ms Clifton-Plaice previously said she was "just heartbroken", describing finding Mr Bronson's body as one of the "worst (days) of my life."

Boston and Skegness MP Matt Warman has described the event as a "tragedy", adding: "It does appear that social services made repeated contact - they tried to get hold and the system did not seem to understand the potential gravity of the situation. That's what we've got to try and understand,".

Lincolnshire County Council said: "On Tuesday the 9th [the social worker] went round again to see Bronson. The landlady arrived with a key and went inside with the social worker where they found tragically two bodies, which is just awful and devastating for all involved."

A spokeswoman for Lincolnshire Police told the Mirror: "Police were made aware of the deaths of a 60-year-old man and a two-year-old child at a property in Skegness, at around 3.25pm on January 9. Investigations have been carried out and the deaths are not being treated as suspicious. The matter has been passed to the coroner’s office.”

Lincolnshire Police referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct as well over the incident.
