The world of golf was handed a treat on Wednesday as the trailer for the eagerly anticipated Netflix series covering the 2022 PGA Tour season was released. It was undoubtedly a year like no other in golf, and the Netflix cameras were there to capture it as it unfolded.

The sport was split in two last summer following the emergence of the controversial LIV Golf Series. Since its inception LIV has found itself embroiled in a battle with the PGA Tour, whose power at the top of the game has been threatened.

The Saudi-backed circuit lured in some of the sport’s biggest names thanks to mega-money offers, and as far as Jay Monahan and co were concerned this was war.

A number of big names embroiled in the drama have been revealed to be stars in the upcoming fly on the wall series named ‘Full Swing’, which will be released on February 15. From changing room tantrums to golf’s big split, here are five big moments teased in this week’s trailer.

Ian Poulter explodes?

One moment that caught the eye of everyone in the trailer was one of the circuit’s players losing their temper in the changing room. The player in question appears to be Ian Poulter - who features heavily in the teaser.

The Englishman will no doubt be a hot topic in the show, having been one of the big names to defect to LIV Golf midway through 2022. Prior to his switch though Poulter is seen letting his anger out at the WGC Dell Technologies Matchplay, as he throws what appears to be a club across the players’ changing room.

Matthew Fitzpatrick’s US Open win

Amid the chaos off the course, one of the biggest moments of the year on it came when Matthew Fitzpatrick won his maiden major title at the US Open last June. It was an historic victory for the Englishman as he prevailed at Brookline, the very same course where he won the US Amateur title nine years prior.

And if the trailer is anything to go by, fans watching the new series will be able to follow Fitzpatrick behind the scenes every step of the way as he went on to secure a famous victory in Massachusetts.

The LIV split

As mentioned a number of the marquee names set to feature cut their PGA Tour seasons short with a move to LIV, but this will no doubt only add to the drama. As well as Poulter, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Joaquin Niemann and the rumoured Mito Pereira are all set to feature in the explosive show. Expect drama!

Rory McIlroy’s shock appearance

When the idea of the production was first released early in 2022, one glaring omission from the included list was Rory McIlroy. Producers had a nice surprise for golf fans though, as the Northern Irishman appeared in the promo.

The four-time major champion played a huge role in the sport’s civil war throughout 2022, not holding back in his criticism of LIV Golf. Now fans can expect more when the show hits TV screens in February.

Poulter: “You picked a hell of a year!”

Poulter was given arguably the most airtime across the one-minute trailer, and no doubt for good reason. He, more than others, has been vocal in his criticism towards the PGA Tour following his recent switch, so it will be interesting to see how his allegiances change throughout the series.

Partway through Wednesday’s trailer drop the Englishman was heard telling the camera with a cheeky look: “You have picked a hell of a year to start following the PGA Tour…” You can say that again, Ian!
