Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge has faced intense backlash from food lovers on Instagram after posting a photo of his famous fish and chips.

Fans and followers alike were shocked by the meal's £32 price tag, labelling it "ridiculously overpriced", which prompted Tom to respond in a not so friendly manner after one person claimed that the fish looked like it was from the frozen aisle of a supermarket.

Tom defended his dish on Instagram, saying: "I know my fish & chips are always a hot topic, and in my opinion, you absolutely can't beat a good fish and chippy tea. The fish & chips at @kerridgesbandg is a real crowd pleaser. But if you'd rather give them a go yourself, check out my recipe." Alongside his caption, Tom posted a picture of his famous fish and chips, complete with tartare sauce and mushy peas. However, some Instagram users weren't the least bit impressed with the presentation of his culinary creation.

One user commented: "Looks like something you'd get in the frozen aisle. Poor." To which a clearly offended Tom responded: "Sad post mate. Cheer up buddy, say something nice, don't be a d***. It's not a good look." At Kerridge's Bar & Grill, located in the five-star Corinthia London hotel, the chef's deep-fried line-caught haddock and chips with pease pudding, tartare sauce and spiced matson sauce is priced at £32. If you want a side salad, it will cost an extra £7.

Other Instagram users also expressed their shock over the prices as one said: "£32 for fish & chips and especially a dish that looks like that." Another echoed: "Sorry now but I could make that at home myself for less than £5 and make it look better. How are people paying almost £40 for this."

"Tom you're a talented man, there's no doubt about it. But come on, lower your prices. We're in a cost of living crisis after all," another complained. However, others disagreed, and insisted that Tom's food is the best in the business. "Honestly this is the best fish and chips I've ever had in my life - so worth the price as a once off treat," one fan of Tom's fans insisted.

It's not the first time Tom's restaurant has come under fire. Back in November, the celebrity chef made headlines after restaurant-goers were left furious after having to sit at stools to eat at one of his fine dining restaurants. Going out for a special occasion to a fancy restaurant can be an exciting affair but also an expensive one. And when you are paying a lot of money for something, you want it to feel like it is worth it. Customers and fans of TV celebrity chef Tom confessed that his posh pub - The Coach - is pretty faultless, but say it is "ruined" by the awkward seating arrangements.

If you want to dine at the Michelin Star pub in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, it will set you back over £30 for a main course, and £65 for a three course meal per person - before drinks. And, you might have to eat your posh food on a stool at the bar and not at a dining table. This has caused outrage among some customers who say they "probably won't come again".

A spokesperson for The Coach said: "Pop yourself on one of our bar stools and chat to our chefs and bar team who are always on hand with a friendly welcome." The website reads: "We are now taking lunch and dinner bookings for same-day dining. Please note, our bar stools are also available to book over the phone."

However, some diners are not happy. One customer shared his experience at The Coach, and said: "I took my partner for a lovely breakfast. We arrived and found quite a lot of tables still free and some seats at the bar. On entering the restaurant we were immediately directed to the bar seats as there were only two of us.

"We asked if we could sit at a table with a little more space, but [were] told they are for larger parties and we were not allowed to sit there. Ten minutes later there were a number of other couples coming into the restaurant and to my anger, three couples were sat on individual four seater tables. This ruined our experience of The Coach. Mr Kerridge this is not the way to keep customers happy. The bar stools were not very comfortable as they are bolted to the ground and you are too close to the bar."
