Luxury property linked to Michelle Mone's husband being flogged for £25million
A luxury London property linked to the husband of Tory peer Baroness Michelle Mone is on sale for £25million, it was reported today.
It comes after the Mirror revealed the couple is having an £80m firesale of other properties, a yacht and a private jet. The 6,000 sq ft, six-bed residence is described as a “meticulously designed and elegant family home” with a sauna, steam room and cinema.
Mone, 52, and husband Douglas Barrowman are being investigated by the National Crime Agency for their role in PPE deals worth £200m in the pandemic. A consortium led by Barrow-man backed the deal between PPE Medpro and the Department for Health, while Mone lobbied the Government via a “VIP lane”.
The couple insist they did nothing wrong. Separately, the Department for Health is suing PPE Medpro for more than £130m over £122m worth of surgical gowns it says were unusable. PPE Medpro is fighting the case. Bra tycoon Mone has apologised for lying to the Mirror when we revealed links between her and Medpro in October 2020.
The couple own properties in the UK and overseas. The six-bed home in Belgravia is owned by an Isle of Man-based firm which is part of the Knox group of companies chaired by Barrowman, 58. Bought in 2020 for £9.25m, the Knox group had said it planned to refurbish the property to sell on. It has now been advertised for sale, with agents seeking a discreet “off market” transaction, according to the Financial Times.
'Striking firefighters and ambulance workers get blamed for mess Tories caused'Meanwhile, it is reported that Barrowman is preparing to take delivery of a £50m yacht, after selling a smaller one and putting a third up for sale. A spokesman for the couple declined to comment on the property sale or new yacht.
Barrowman’s current yacht Lady M has had its asking price lowered to less than £7m. His £7.5m Cessna private jet, bought in 2021, is also listed for sale. His Caribbean villa has had its price cut from £63m to £41m.
Their London townhouse sold last year for £19m. The Mirror understands a £7m Algarve villa bought by Barrow-man in 2022 through an offshore firm has now sold. Earlier this month, his spokesman said the couple are fighting back against the PPE claims, saying: “They have been very successful in business for decades.”
The couple told the BBC they had been made “scapegoats” for the Government’s failings with PPE.
