A mum who lost her three children as they waited for the school bus has revealed that she and her husband have now welcomed a baby boy, Psalm, via surrogacy. Brittany Ingle and her family were left devastated when a driver ploughed into four children, killing their 9-year-old daughter Alivia and 6-year-old twins Xzavier and Mason, and seriously injuring another child.

The mum, who has another daughter from a previous relationship, said: “All my children were gone in a blink of an eye, and as a mother, that is your worst nightmare." The tragedy, which happened in 2018, sent shockwaves through the community after it was revealed the person behind the wheel was a well-known church-going woman.

The driver was prosecuted and sentenced to just four years in prison, of which she only served two before being released on house arrest, according to the South Bend Tribune.

The bereaved family struggled to move past their grief, however, five years after the horrific accident, Brittany and her husband Shane decided they wanted to try for another baby. However, due to a previous operation that meant Brittany could no longer carry a child, the couple began to look into surrogacy.

Advised to reach out to family and friends first before considering other options, Brittany shared something on social media and was contacted by another mother who had experienced the same tragic situation as she had.

Kerri Fox had lost her son when he walked over a road to school and a driver failed to stop. United in their grief, the two mothers quickly bonded and Kerri agreed to be Brittany and Shane’s surrogate.

In September 2023, their little boy arrived and his parents knew just what to name him. Sharing the story, Brittany explained to Fox 5 that one of her sons had a dog tag with him when he was killed. The kids had been given the dog tags when they went trick-or-treating a few days earlier.

She said: “When I got it, I seen the cross, and I flipped it over and on the back it said, ‘Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light to my path,’" she explained, recalling the biblical scripture found in the book of Psalm. It seemed like the perfect tribute to their children.

Commenting on her baby boy, Brittany added: "He is almost four months old and things are great. He is a beautiful, healthy, perfect baby."
