Liverpool have enjoyed a quiet January transfer window so far by their standards, with the Reds yet to make a new signing.

Last year, Liverpool spent £37million to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, having previously forked out an initial £37.5m on Luis Diaz the year before that. However, Liverpool appear happy to wait until the end of the season to do their business this time around, having signed four new players over the summer.

However, they may yet be tempted to dip into the market to strengthen their Premier League title bid, with Jurgen Klopp's side currently two points clear at the top of the table.

With that in mind, here is the latest news from Anfield.

Mbappe blow

According to Diario AS, Paris Saint-Germain have offered Kylian Mbappe a bumper new contract worth €100million (£86.15m) per season.

Mbappe's current deal is due to expire in the summer and he has been heavily linked with an exit, with ESPN reporting earlier this month that Real Madrid and Liverpool were the 'most likely destinations should he opt to leave the French capital'.

However, PSG are desperate to keep him and their contract offer is reportedly three times more what Real are willing to pay him. Mbappe has scored 26 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions for PSG so far this season.

Williams loan

Liverpool defender Rhys Williams has completed a loan move to League One side Port Vale, having been recalled from a loan stint at Aberdeen earlier this month.

Williams, who made 19 first-team appearances for the Reds in the 2020/21 season, played just one game for Aberdeen and will be hoping for more regular action at Vale Park. "I am absolutely delighted to welcome Rhys to Vale Park," manager Andy Crosby said.

"He comes into the squad and instantly enhances our defensive options with the quality that he possesses and, as a person, I am sure that he will prove to be a popular figure off the pitch too, with his personality, drive and desire to become the very best version of himself."

Liverpool enter Sonko race

Liverpool are one of three clubs considering a move for Swedish prospect Momodou Sonko, according to Fotboll Direkt.

The report states that representatives from Liverpool, RB Leipzig and Bologna held 'secret' meetings with Sonko's current club BK Hacken to discuss signing the 18-year-old, with all three clubs making 'strong moves' to get a deal done. The report adds that an offer of more than €4m (£3.4m) from an unnamed club has already been rejected by Hacken as the club values him at around €7m (£6m).

Hacken's sporting director Martin Ericsson told Fotbollkanalen: "The interest is huge. Then it must be said that there have been some other young players who end up in the spotlight in Sweden. But the interest is great, especially considering the size of clubs."
