The Chase stars dub EastEnders star 'best quizzer on circuit' with hidden talent

The Chase stars Anne Hegerty and Shaun Wallace have revealed the celebrity they fear could put them through their paces on the ITV series.

Chasers Anne and Shaun both appeared on the This Morning sofa today, admitting to hosts Dermot O'Leary and Josie Gibson that there is one star they wouldn't fancy facing on the celebrity version of their game show.

The Dark Destroyer and The Governess were chatting on the ITV show ahead of another star-studded special of The Chase airing, with Shaun praising Countdown star Rachel Riley following her stint facing The Chasers.

"I've been up against some really good celebrities - Jonathan Ross is one of them," Shaun admitted when asked which famous faces could match him when it comes to general knowledge.

"I'll tell you who else is good, his brother Paul - an excellent quizzer. But the best celebrity quizzer on the circuit has got to be Shaun Williams," The Chase star then revealed.

"Barry from EastEnders," Anne clarified for hosts Dermot and Josie, who didn't appear to immediately recognise Shaun's name. "He takes part in a British quiz league," Shaun continued as he sang Shaun's praises on the daytime TV programme. "He's that good," The Chaser added.

Shaun, who played unlucky Barry on EastEnders from 1994 until his character's on-screen death in 2004, has previously opened up about his love of quizzes - admitting seeing people enjoy virtual quizzes whilst stuck indoors during the Covid-19 pandemic was "the only good thing to come out of lockdown."

The Extras actor appeared on The Chase: Celebrity Special in 2021 and owns two Pointless trophies in addition to winning the first series of Celebrity Mastermind in 2003, with the former soap star having Richard Burton as his specialist subject. Speaking in November 2020, ahead of his The Chase debut, Shaun told The Yorkshire Post: "The only good thing for me that came out of lockdown was trying to find out if there is a national quiz obsession and if people are as excited as I am. Quizzing combines our two national passions of drinking and wanting to be right."

The Chase: Celebrity Special returned to our screens once again over the weekend, with retired athlete Roger Black one of the star to take on the Chasers in a bid to raise money for their chosen charities. Roger impressed viewers with his general knowledge and even beat Mark 'The Beast' Labbett when he went for the higher offer of £120,000.
