Jose Mourinho has now earned over £85million in compensation following his latest sacking by Italian side Roma.

The Portuguese head coach was axed by the Serie A giants on Tuesday morning after a yet another defeat - the Giallorossi this time going under 3-1 to AC Milan. It has left Roma ninth in the table and Mourinho without a job.

Explaining the decision to sack him, Roma co-owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin said: "We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours."

It is the sixth time in his career that Mourinho has faced the sack and, in that time, he has earned a huge amount of pay-offs. Here, Mirror Football takes a look back at his previous exits and how much he has managed to bank.

Chelsea

Let’s start with what was arguably the most controversial. Mourinho was a hugely popular figure at Stamford Bridge after being appointed by Roman Abramovich.

He helped the Blues to two Premier League titles before the Russian owner grew tired. He stumped up an £18m compensation pay-out to oust Mourinho against the fans' wishes back in 2007.

Real Madrid

After a hugely successful spell with Italian giants Inter Milan - where he won the Champions League - Mourinho was tempted by the glitz and glamour of the Santiago Bernabeu. It looked like a match made in heaven.

Mourinho’s Los Blancos side were thrilling, too. They smashed through the 100-point barrier in his second season and broke the all-time goalscoring record in La Liga.

The Bernabeu hierarchy were far from convinced though. A disappointing third season saw Mourinho jettisoned in favour of Carlo Ancelotti and he secured a cool £17m in the process.

Chelsea (again)

There was plenty of acclaim when Mourinho returned to West London for a second bite of the cherry. Despite limited success in his first campaign, the Portuguese was once again strutting his stuff at Stamford Bridge.

He led Chelsea to the title during the 2014/15 season, while they were also victorious in the League Cup. That was not enough to satisfy Abramovich though, who pulled the trigger once again only months later.

This time, his payout was slightly more conservative at just £12.5m, but that still means that he has earned over £30m just from getting sacked by Chelsea.

Manchester United

Just a few months after receiving his P45 from the Blues for the second time, Mourinho reappeared in the Premier League - this time with Manchester United. Much like everywhere else, he enjoyed an excellent first season.

He lifted the League Cup, Community Shield and Europa League during his maiden campaign at Old Trafford. But that momentum soon came to a grinding halt.

During his third season, the Red Devils’ form was miserable and he was sacked after just seven wins in 17 Premier League games. Mourinho secured around £17m as compensation from the Glazers.

Tottenham

So, third time lucky for Mourinho as Daniel Levy turned to the Portuguese as a replacement for the hugely popular Mauricio Pochettino. The pair could not have experienced more contrasting fortunes.

Despite a bright start, things soon turned sour. Spurs finished sixth during his first season. Another lowlight was also a Europa League exit to Dinamo Zagreb. Mourinho was at the helm for just 17 months all told and earned £18m upon his departure.

Roma

And now we arrive at Mourinho’s latest sacking, it looks unlikely that he will have bagged a huge amount compared to any of his other jobs. It has been claimed that he is only likely to receive around £3m.

His contract was up at the end of the season regardless but Roma have decided that they are better off without his services going forwards.
