Kate Beckinsale left heartbroken as she announces death of beloved step-dad
Kate Beckinsale's step-dad Roy Battersby has died, she has announced.
The actress took to her Instagram page to confirm the devastating news as she said she "fought" for him with "everything she had". It comes after Roy's health had declined after suffering from a "massive stroke".
The TV director had also battled against two forms of cancer following a devastating diagnosis in the summer of 2023. Roy, who died aged 87, had been receiving treatment in a Los Angeles hospital for his declining health. Last week, Kate took to Instagram to share an image of a black screen, with fans instantly offering their condolences to the Pearl Harbour actress.

Taking to her Instagram stories, she shared a newspaper clipping which read: "BATTERSBY, Roy. It is with great sorrow that the family of film and television director Roy Battersby announce the news of his recent death after a brief period of illness. He passed away peacefully on 10 January 2024, in Los Angeles surrounded by family, aged 87. Funeral will be held in London, details to follow."
Meanwhile, over on her Instagram grid, the actress shared a video montage of her late step-dad alongside the caption: "I have no words yet. Thank you @katebeckinsale_slovakia2 for making this beautiful thing. I fought for you with everything I had. Oh Roy I am so sorry I lost."

The actress was extremely close to Roy (Instagram)Her upload was soon flooded with messages from fans, with one writing: "So sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing him with all of us. He brought a lot of people a lot of joy." A second penned: "He's up in heaven with your first dad and they are so proud of you." Another went on to write: "Oh dear how I loved Roy and your mum and you especially. Whenever you showed anything with Roy I always roared with laughter because he was always up for a great joke or funny skit or costume. Lucky Clive gets a bosom buddy now. We miss you dearly sweet wonderful Roy."
Meanwhile, Nadia Sawalha's husband Mark Adderldy penned: "Sending all our love sweetheart - no words xxx." Tamara Mellon OBE commented: "Thinking of you Kate and sending Love. He was same generation as my dad, WW11 kids… he looks very cool. So happy you had him and can’t wait to hear more stories..."
Just one day before Roy's death, Kate dashed from the Golden Globe Awards to the hospital, while still wearing her luxury gown. The star shared snaps from the glitzy event on her Instagram, before going on to upload pictures of her taken at the hospital next to Roy's bed side.
