Maya Jama's response to Jake and Liberty reunion after Stormzy's second chance
Maya Jama teased second chances are not for everybody as Liberty Poole reunites with her ex Jake Cornish in the spin-off All Stars series.
Liberty endured one of the most agonising break-ups in Love Island history when she accused Jake of ‘faking’ his feelings for her days for weeks ahead of the 2021 final. The Brummie babe, who had been with Jake from the start, fled the villa in floods of tears after saying she'd realised the harsh truth about the engineer.
Love Island fans are now bracing for a tense reunion between the pair, who haven't seen each other for years. Host Maya will be on hand for the ensuing fireworks after she recently reunited with her ex Stormzy.
Asked if Liberty could be inspired to have a change of heart in the villa, Maya - who confirmed her reunion with rap star Stormzy last year - said: “I think Liberty is going to do what she wants to do. Some people are just meant to be together and some people aren’t.
"A lot of the girlies are rooting for Lib," she added. "Maybe she’ll find a new love in there but maybe her and Jake will rekindle an old spark. I actually can’t predict who is going to get together. From that line-up who would know? Some of them have probably never crossed paths and some of them will have history." Asked about her own requirements for love, Maya said: "There’s not an easy way to my heart. There shouldn’t be an easy way to anyone’s heart!
Maya and Stomzy ended their four year relationship in 2019. The rapper called the split with the TV star his ‘biggest loss’ in life and said it was ‘probably the biggest catalyst’ for his growth as a person. The heartbroken musician put his feelings to paper and wrote an emotional and heartfelt song about the breakup.
In his track Lessons he referenced Maya by name and alluded to the fact he had not been faithful. Singing: "Fast forward now / My nephew's still asking for his Aunty Maya / Guess this is the karma for what I done to Maya / I just stood and let it burn, I couldn't down the fire / Lord, I pray you make it easy, that's my one desire."
In August 2023, months after Maya called off her engagement to US basketball star Ben Simmons, fans uncovered she was holidaying with her ex Stormzy after spotting similarities in their holiday photos. A few months later, in October, the pair went Instagram official with Maya posting a video of Stormzy welcoming her from Fiji as she returned from hosting Love Island: The Games.
After a turbulent few years in her own love life, a now coupled up Maya says she’s ready to act as a ‘big sister’ to the Love Island All Star contestants this season - many of whom she has met before. "I think we’ve got a nice repertoire, me and the islanders. There is a mutual respect. I’ve seen a few of them out before. I like to think that means they will open up a bit more to me.
Love Island's Haris spills on unaired row between Zara and Tanyel"I’m firm but fair is a nice way to say it. I try to be empathetic when they’ve slipped up because if we all had a camera following us around 24 hours a day I’m sure we’d all do something that’s a bit like ‘Hey, don’t do that!’ I’m aware that these are young people on camera all the time and sometimes they might be in a bad mood and sometimes things might come out so I always take that into consideration when speaking to them."
