The Best FIFA Awards will take place in London later on this evening, with both the best men's player and best women's player ready to be revealed.

Last year's ceremony in Paris saw a fairly predictable victory for Lionel Messi, who was crowned as the best men's player in the world thanks in large part to his World Cup triumph with Argentina in Qatar just two months prior. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner is up for the same gong this time around and were he to triumph, it would be his third time as winner.

Messi is up against some stern competition in Manchester City talisman Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe. Both have enjoyed remarkable years for their clubs, with Haaland even breaking the Premier League record for goals scored in a single season.

Jenni Hermoso is viewed as the favourite to win the women's best player, though her international team-mate Aitana Bonmati could run her close. Both of the Spain stars played a vital role in their World Cup success in Australia, beating the Lionesses in the final.

Mirror Football has taken a look at everything you need to know about the FIFA Best awards ahead of the show.
