Love Island All Stars' Liberty confronts ex-boyfriend Jake in awkward reunion

Love Island: All Stars starts with a bang as famous exes Liberty Poole and Jake Cornish come face to face for the first time in two years.

The duo first appeared on Love Island during season seven in 2021 where they were the instant favourites to win the show. But disaster struck in the closing days of the contest as 24-year-old Liberty was shown footage of 26-year-old Jake complaining that he didn’t find her as attractive as he had led her to believe.

This destroyed poor Liberty’s confidence and the couple opted to drop out of the show just hours from the live final. Their once rock-solid romance soon collapsed and they broke up for good once they were outside of the villa.

Now ITV is bringing back a host of famous faces from past seasons of Love Island for the first All Stars spin-off in the show’s history. And Liberty and Jake come face to face with each other when they follow each other into the villa.

The new series kicks off on ITV tonight at 9pm and viewers will see season one veteran Hannah Elizabeth, 33, arrive alongside Liberty. As the ladies realise they are the first to arrive, Liberty declares: “Cheers to being the first blonde bombshells.”

The two ladies are closely followed, however, by season five contestant Chris Taylor, 33 - and Liberty’s ex, Jake. Liberty is visibly shocked to see her former flame in front of her - and in an attempt to break the tension, Chris remarks: “Well this is a fantastic start isn't it, you’re going to have to have it out… Have you two spoken?”

Liberty says: “No…not really. It’s been two years…” However, the mood is lifted when Liberty’s good friend and fellow season seven star Kaz Kamwi arrives alongside season ten contestant Mitch Taylor, 27.

Later, Liberty and 29-year-old Kaz steal some time to catch up - with Kaz asking Liberty how she feels about seeing Jake again. She replies: “You know what babe, I'll have a chat tonight and because we are Ex’s and we haven’t spoken I want to see exactly where he is at.”

In a pre-entry interview, Liberty was asked how she would feel if there was someone she dated in the All Stars villa alongside her. She replied: “It’s always going to be awkward isn’t it, it’s always going to be weird seeing someone that you’ve been with getting with someone else. I wish my exes nothing but the best. I'm going to be focused on my own journey so if it was to happen I won’t be worrying about them - so I'll stay focussed on my goal, which is to find love.”

And Jake was asked the same question, and he replied: “Well there is only one and that’s Liberty. We never ended with any bad blood between us and everything happens for a reason. We just become two different people in the end.”

Love Island: All Stars airs tonight at 9pm on ITV1, ITV2, ITVX and STV.
