Superdrug reports strong Christmas sales as shoppers get party ready
Beauty treatments and piercings in-store boosted Superdrug's Christmas sales as people got ready for festive parties.
Peter Macnab, the brand's boss, shared he felt "exceptionally pleased to be reporting strong Christmas results" despite increased living costs pressuring customers. Superdrug revealed sales had risen by 9.2% over the four weeks leading up to December 30, with like-for-like growth of 7.1% during the holiday season.
The standout performers were Studio London brand cosmetics, fragrances, and oral care products, highlighted by the company. In-store beauty services and piercings saw substantial customer interest following investment in those areas. Piercing services expanded to about 500 stores and reported 54% growth compared to December 2022.
The Beauty Studio's brow threading service and other offerings saw a 20% increase year on year. Sales of Superdrug's own-brand products also rose about a tenth as customers hunt for more affordable items.
Mr Macnab said: "We understand the pressures customers are currently facing and are committed to supporting them and offering the very best in accessible health and beauty. The strong sales growth in own brand really demonstrates that customers are seeking quality products from a brand that they can trust, at an affordable price."
Superdrug fragrance that 'smells just like Alien' is down to half price"Our continued investment into expanding the store estate and digital services, as well as in innovation, remains imperative and has helped contribute to an increase in sales throughout the December period. I'd like to thank my colleagues for all of their hard work in bringing such a fantastic and competitive offering to shoppers and for their contribution to these results."
