Carol Kirkwood hails 'blissfully perfect' Christmas wedding on return to studio

Carol Kirkwood says her "blissfully perfect" Christmas wedding couldn't have been any more romantic as she made her return to the BBC studio.

The telly veteran, who revealed her engagement to long-term partner Steve Randall live on TV, quietly tied the knot in Buckinghamshire on December 27. She stunned fans by making the announcement that she had married the police officer, who is 13 years her junior.

The 61-year-old weather expert said today that she would not change anything about her big day as she returned to work on BBC Breakfast. Newsreader Jon Kay quizzed her about it all after she posted a number of snaps of the happy couple looking incredible on their wedding day. She told him it couldn't have been more perfect.

"John I cannot tell you how fabulous it's been. It was the most perfect and romantic and intimate wedding - we are both so incredibly happy," Carol said. "You shouldn't really be talking like this about your own wedding but it was blissful, it was romantic, it was absolutely perfect. I would not change a thing about the day.

She then joked: "It was very small as well, and intimate, so you didn't have to worry that Auntie Nelly didn't have a glass of sherry in her hand." Jon then teased: "Does that mean you had all the sherry?" the comment left Carol giggling as she responded to her colleague: "You know me far too well!"

Not much is known about Carol's husband Steve, 47, however, she's previously sad he's "extremely handsome" and never fails to make her laugh. "He always makes me a cup of tea before I go to work in the morning, which is very romantic - it's 2.45am," she told Prima Magazine. "He often leaves me a little love note for when I come home from work. That, to me, is worth a million red roses," she revealed, telling fans he is "the best thing that's ever happened to me, without a shadow of a doubt".

After divorcing Jimmy, her husband of 25 years, in the late 2000s, Carol embarked on her new relationship with Steve in 2021. She recently said she is happy to enjoy "the simple pleasures in life" now, especially when those involve Steve. He has been married once before, sharing one daughter with his wife of 12 years Nichola Randall.

Carol has since thanked viewers for their kind words, posting on X: "Thank you so much for all your lovely messages. We had the most perfect day. It was a tiny wedding but so romantic and intimate. A day we will never forget. We are bursting with happiness. It wasn’t a ‘secret’ wedding, just a private one."
