Most Brits can't live without a delicious breaded fish and a side of chips for too long and while you've probably made it more times with a deep fryer, the healthier and easier option is rustling up the dish using an air fryer.

After trying out this wholesome Slimming World family recipe, you won't be tempted to pop into your local chippy anymore. The recipe is easy-to-follow and you'll only need a few ingredients - including flour, two eggs, and four slices of wholemeal bread that you'll need to crumble into small pieces.

The process takes roughly 20 minutes, and once you've made your breaded fish, you can tuck into with some chips and a side of salad. You should be careful not to overload your air fryer, and cook your fish for 12 minutes but it may take longer depending on the size of your appliance.

Slimming World air fryer fish:

Ingredients

  • Two level tbsp plain flour
  • A large pinch cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Two medium eggs
  • Four slices of wholemeal bread (from a small 400g loaf), blitzed into crumbs
  • Four chunky skinless and boneless cod fillets
  • Low-calorie cooking spray
  • Lemon wedges, to serve
  • Slimming World Chips, to serve
  • Canned mushy peas, to serve
  • Salad, to serve

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 180°C. Put the flour in a wide bowl and stir in a little seasoning and the cayenne pepper, if using. Put the egg in another wide bowl and the breadcrumbs into a third bowl. Coat the cod fillets in the flour, then dip them into the egg and finally roll them in the crumbs.
  2. Line the air fryer basket with non-stick baking paper and add the fish. Spray with low-calorie cooking spray and cook for 12 minutes, carefully turning halfway. You may need to do these in batches depending on the size of your air fryer. If you don’t have an air fryer, heat your oven to 200°C/180°C fan/gas mark 6 and bake the cod for 10 to 12 minutes, or until cooked.
  3. Gently lift out the fish and serve with the lemon wedges. Serve hot with the chips, mushy peas, and salad. Top tip: you can pick up a bag of Slimming World Chips from your local Iceland or The Food Warehouse store.
