The Masked Singer UK fans think they have figured out who is hiding under the piranha costume - with many convinced it is a former winner of The X Factor.

The madcap guessing game is current airing its fifth season - with Piranha in the line up alongside a Dippy Egg, Eiffel Tower and Owl. The show has already uncovered three stars - but viewers think they already known who is hiding beneath the razor tooth fish costume.

Clues shared for Piranha so far state: “It’s pretty scary being underwater, other piranha’s snapping at you. I dream of getting away, with plenty of fish in the sea, I’d rather be elsewhere. Somewhere with more stablity. It’s no laughing matter. It’s so much safer out here.”

In VT shown on the show, the mystery star was then shown running through a fairground, passing clown faces and a ghost ride. They then declared: “This place is just petrifying. Not to mention I’m terrified of what you’ll think when you get to look at my singing.”

Piranha then blew the judges and viewers at home away as they belted out an impressive rendition of the Celine Dion classic It’s All Coming Back to Me Now. Main judge Jonathan Ross speculated that the star under the outfit could be Steven Seagal, while Rita Ora questioning if it could be Jamie Cullum and praised the celebrity for being the best vocalists to appear on the show so far. Davina McCall suggested the singer could be Jordan Knight from American boy band New Kids on the Block, and Mo Gilligan guessed they could be British singer Sting.

But viewers at home are convinced they recognised the singing voice of the mystery star immediately as 2010 X Factor winner Matt Cardle, 40. One fan declared on X: "I so want piranha to be you Matt Cardle," while another agreed, writing: "Masked Singer UK piranha is Matt Cardle … got to be."

Another fan commented: "The voice also sounds like Matt Cardle for Piranha." And another remarked: "Someone’s just said Matt Cardle and now I feel like I can’t unhear it.” And a further fan suggested: "I am incredibly torn between Danny Jones and Matt Cardle for Pirahana."

Indeed, others thought the voice and clues hinted at McFly singer and The Voice Kids judge Danny, 37, being behind the mask. One viewer mused: "I heard ‘motion in the ocean’ as a clue and was like ‘not to be that annoying mcfly stan but thats a mcfly album’ and then mr Danny Jones opened his mouth and tah dah! #maskedsinger." Another echoed: "Any McFly fan knows without a doubt that this is @itsDannyJones on the Masked Singer go get em mush."

And a further fan wrote: "Another edition of Masked Singer started and surprisingly this voice sounds sooo familiar… anyone else thinks that Danny is disguised as the Piranha?”

So far the fifth season of the Masked Singer UK has seen iconic American songwriter Dionne Warwick, actor and gameshow host Alexander Armstrong, and Strictly judge Shirley Ballas uncovered from beneath Weather, Chicken Caesar and Rat costumes respectively. Past winners of the UK version of the show include Busted singer Charlie Simpson, Girls Aloud babe Nicola Roberts, Australian singer and actress Natalie Imbruglia and soul singer Joss Stone.
