Former Love Island contestant Belle Hassan has claimed she would love to be a contestant on Big Brother - but ITV has a a strict rule that would ban her from taking part.

The 25-year-old reality star was a contestant on Love Island back in 2019 when she appeared on season five of the show - and just fell short of making the final after being partnered with 28-year-old Scotsman Anton Danyluk. While an All-Stars version of Love Island is poised to begin this month, with old contestants returning for a second chance at romance, Belle says she’d rather appear on rival reality show Big Brother.

The iconic series first aired via Channel 4 in 2000 before transferring to Channel 5 in 2011, and being cancelled in 2018. ITV sensationally revived Big Brother in 2023 - and Belle says she would “die” to be on it.

However, she claimed ITV have a strict approach to the way they recruit contestants to appear on the series. Despite the revived series featuring a former Deal Or No Deal contestant and an online food influencer, Belle claims ITV won’t allow influencers on the show.

Speaking to The Sun, Belle explained her love for the show, saying: "Big brother has been a dream of mine since I was a kid.I actually applied for this series. I didn't initially want to do the celebrity one but Celebrity Big Brother would be a dream. I would literally die to do that. I would do that for free."

But when asked why ITV had denied her an interview to feature on the show, she claimed: “They didn't want any influencers." However, a TV source told the publication: “There's no hard and fast rule - Henry from the previous series was a content creator - but there are a lot of people in the mix and thousands of people audition.”

Celebrity Big Brother is also being revived by ITV - with a new season expected to start airing in March. Names that have been linked to the new show include former X Factor judge Louis Walsh and former The Only Way Is Essex star Joey Essex.

Meanwhile, Belle’s ex Anton will soon be seen back in the Love Island villa as he is one of the All Star contestants taking part in the new show that kicks off next week. Explaining why he is going back into the famous house, he said: “For me it was a no brainer.

"I got the call and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and probably the best summer I have ever had in my life. Getting the chance to do it twice is going to be unbelievable.”

He explained he does hope to find a love that can last this time around, explaining: “I think this time with Love Island: All Stars, things will be different, as we all understand what it’s like to go on Love Island and the only thing now missing is finding a partner. I’m really excited at the prospect of it.”

And reflecting on his time on the show previously, he said: “There are two [moments] that stand out for me! If I get seen out, people always ask me ‘does your mum still shave your bum?’ Haha. That just doesn’t go away! And of course it has to be Craig David performing. It was iconic.”
