Matthew Perry spoke very highly about his Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston and even admitted to having a big crush on her.

"He was happy. He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy — that's all I know," she said in an interview with Variety. "I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn't struggling."
Jennifer said Matthew had "worked so hard" to overcome his addiction to drugs. She said he was focusing on his health in the years before he died.

He admitted to making her believe he "liked her too much or in the wrong kind of way", but that didn't stop him from asking her on a date. Jennifer turned him down, but they managed to stay close friends.

The tension started after Matthew admitted he had a massive crush on his friend, which became awkward when she rejected him. In his memoir, Matthew said he came across in the "wrong kind of way" and made matters worse by asking Jennifer out on a date.
He wrote: "She declined (which made it very difficult to actually go out with her), but said that she'd love to be friends with me, and I compounded the compound by blurting, 'We can't be friends!'"
Matthew continued: "Fairly early in the making of Friends I realised that I was still crushing badly on Jennifer Aniston. Our hellos and goodbyes became awkward. And then I'd ask myself, 'How long can I look at her? Is three seconds too long?'"

In an interview about the book in October 2022, Matthew praised Jennifer. "She was the one that reached out the most. You know, I'm really grateful to her for that," he told Diane Sawyer.
