Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has held talks over becoming the next manager of Sweden.

The Norwegian has been out of work since being axed by Manchester United in 2021 but could yet take up a post in international management. Janne Andersson resigned back in November after Sweden failed to qualify for Euro 2024 and they remain on the hunt for a new boss.

Solskjaer was interviewed by the Swedish Football Association in December and is one of several names in the frame. Swedish news outlet Fotbollskanalen state that he is interested in the vacant post but the association will take their time over the appointment.

Former Sweden international Olof Mellberg and Australia women's boss Tony Gustavsson were the frontrunners for the Sweden post. However talks with Mellberg have broken down and, whilst Gustavsson taking over is not over is not ruled out, the governing body are considering other options.

The ex-United boss has had offers to return to management, but opted against those put on the table. The majority of those came from Saudi Arabia, but Solskjaer remains out of a job.

He told the Athletic in September: "I've had offers. Most recently, two from Saudi Arabia. My best mate, who is also my agent, sifts through them. If you've managed Man United, you put your own criteria about what you want to work with. I love England and the Premier League.

"Even the Championship feels stronger than ever, but I don't feel bound to England. Maybe a different challenge where I need to experience a new culture and learn a new language."

Solskjaer has previously enjoyed success in Scandanavia whilst managing Molde in his homeland. He led them to the league title, which helped him get the United gig, where he spent three years at the helm. The Norwegian led the Red Devils to third and second place finishes.

Despite that he failed to end their trophy drought, losing out in numerous semi-finals and finals. There was also constant criticism over his credentials though as he struggled to battle with some of football's biggest names in the dugout.
