Foster hated playing with "moody" Man Utd star who'd "dig you out" in training
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster once admitted he hated training with Red Devils legend Nemanja Vidic because he'd "dig you out" after one mistake.
The no-nonsense Serbian centre-back is widely viewed as one of the best defenders to ever grace the Old Trafford turf and was never one to shy away from a blood-curdling tackle. Famed for putting his head where it hurts, Vidic commanded immense respect from teammates and opposition players alike.
However, he clearly also intimidated some of his own colleagues as well. Foster spent five seasons on the books at United, though in that time he managed to make just 12 first-team appearances. In that time, he shared a dressing room with some of the best talents in the world, including Vidic.
Back in 2020 while reminiscing on his time as a Red Devil, Foster shed light on what Vidic was like off the pitch while speaking to the Squeaky Bum Time podcast. The ex-England international explained: "Just talking about Nemanja, off the pitch he was fairly quiet wasn't he, but on the pitch, in training, that guy was a scary bloke, honestly.
"Horrible, honestly he did not care. If we were playing a five-a-side or six-a-side or something, if you were on his team, I used to think 'Please don't be on Nemanja's team, please don't'.

"Because if we didn't win, if I let a goal in that he thinks I should have done better with, he was letting you know and he would dig you out and he was after everybody. Honestly, he was horrible in training but off the pitch completely different."
Unsurprisingly, Foster is not the only former United star to make such a claim about Vidic. Red Devils legend Paul Scholes once echoed a similar sentiment, admitting the Serbia international was a "lunatic" in training.

He was perfect for English football he could head the ball, tackle. he was great, a really good player.
"I was fairly good at tackling. It was all calculated," Scholes added. "I was just getting people back. That’s all I was doing! I never instigated. If someone got me, there’s a chance I’d get them back. Vida [Vidic] had some tackles in the box, he could be a lunatic."
For all of his training ground antics, Vidic was incredibly successful during his eight years at Old Trafford. The centre-back won five Premier League titles, three League Cups and a Champions League.
