"She was the best of us - I have never met a more generous and loving person. She loved life and never complained. Ever."

Mia continued: "She was a nurse for 27 years, a wonderful sister to Steffi, Prudence, and me, a devoted mother to Jason, who died in Iraq, Bridget and little grandson Kylor - the lights of her life.

"She died unexpectedly yesterday morning. Apparently in her sleep. This is a hard time for all of us who admire and love her so deeply."

Fans were quick to pay their respects and send condolences to Mia following her post. One person commented: "My deepest condolences to you and your family."

"So sorry for your loss of your sister," added someone else. A third person then wrote: "So beautiful. What a beautiful tribute!"

Tisa was born in Los Angeles, California on July 22, 1951. Her parents were Maureen O'Sullivan and Australian-born film director John Farrow.

The movie star was the youngest of four girls and three boys. As well as being a sister to Mia, she was also a sister to Prudence, Stephanie, Michael, Damien, Patrick Joseph, and John Charles.

After leaving school, Tisa said that she "spent a long time going around town trying out for commercials" with no success. She is reported to have said: "I would always run into some career woman who disliked me right away because she didn't like my sister Mia."
