Transfer news live - Dier joins Bayern as Arsenal 'to activate' Zubimendi clause

The January transfer window is gathering pace, with Jadon Sancho and Eric Dier both completing moves on Thursday.

Sancho has returned to Borussia Dortmund on loan from Manchester United, while Dier has linked back up with former Spurs team-mate Harry Kane at Bayern Munich. A number of other deals are also in the pipeline as Premier League clubs look to boost their squads.

Arsenal's move for a striker has hit a wall with Ivan Toney, but a familiar face in midfield is back on their radar - despite having previously snubbed the Gunners. But forwards such as Dusan Vlahovic, Borja Mayoral and Joshua Zirkzee have all also been linked with a move to North London.

Liverpool continue to be linked with Kylian Mbappe, though the France captain would only be able to move in the summer. Instead, the Reds appear to be focusing on tying down their current stars to longer contracts with Mohamed Salah set for talks with club chiefs.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has ruled the Magpies out of signing Bournemouth star Dominic Solanke.

Dortmund confirm Maatsen loan

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the loan signing of Chelsea star Ian Maatsen.

DONE DEAL - Coventry joins Charlton

Conor Coventry has joined Charlton in a permanent move from West Ham.

Coventry's contract with the Hammers was due to expire at the end of the season. But it has now been announced that he has moved to the Valley, with the midfielder delighted to join the Addicks.

After his completing his move, Coventry said: "The vision of the gaffer and the people behind the scenes with where they want to take the club. I’m from London so I know what this club means to people and the size of it. I’m really looking forward to buying into what is going on here and being a part of it."

Beckham meets with Mbappe

David Beckham has met with Kylian Mbappe at PSG's training ground, with the superstar still unsure of his future plans.

Beckham was in Paris for Thursday's NBA match between the Brooklyn Nets and the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Accor Arena. Before heading to the basketball clash though, Beckham stopped off at PSG's Camp des Loges training facility.

The first person he met was Mbappe, with the France captain running over to hug Beckham before the duo held a short conversation. While it is unlikely he joins Beckham's MLS side Inter Miami, the former England star has been a keen admirer of the Frenchman.

Koumetio set for Liverpool return

Liverpool youngster Billy Koumetio looks set to return to Anfield from his loan at USL Dunkerque.

The 21-year-old defender completed a loan move to the Ligue 2 side during the summer transfer window, where he has gone to start in all eight of his appearances so far. Despite his strong start, Koumetio's future is now in doubt after he was not spotted in their latest training sessions.

According to La Voix Du Nord, Koumetio is not currently with the Dunkerque squad and is 'no longer taking part' in training sessions with the club. While there is no current explanation for the absence, speculation is swirling over a possible return to Merseyside.

Carragher urges Man Utd to make transfer change

Jamie Carragher has urged Manchester United to curtail Erik ten Hag's control over transfers.

"When he initially came in, an interesting one was Mohamed Salah and Jürgen Klopp is open about this. He didn't want to sign him, he wanted Julian Brandt," Carragher told the Stick to Football podcast.

"Liverpool had tried to sign Salah before he went to Chelsea and the people behind the scenes at Liverpool were still there and Salah then went to Roma, and they were very adamant that they had to sign this player.

"You look at what Mohamed Salah has done, but it could have easily gone the other way. I do feel that this idea that managers should buy every player isn't right, but a manager shouldn't have a player pushed on him.

"I don't think a manager should just be able to do what he wants, you look at Manchester United and it's worrying, it feels as if he's [Erik ten Hag] just bought every player he knows."

Roma confident of keeping Dybala

Roma are confident of keeping Paulo Dybala beyond the January transfer window.

The 30-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Serie A giants this month. A release clause in his contract means he can be bought for £10m until 15 January.

But according to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Roma hierarchy are confident that clause will not be activated.

Dragusin agent reveals all on Spurs move

Radu Drăgușin's agent Florin Manea has revealed that Tottenham beat more than Bayern Munich to the signing of the defender.

“We had been talking for two months (with Tottenham),” Manea told TuttoMercatoWeb.

“Bayern Munich showed up on the last day before leaving and it’s normal to think about it. However, the boy kept his word with Tottenham.

“Napoli was the most concrete club. But Radu didn’t want to go to another Italian team, he didn’t even want to leave Genoa halfway through the season… he thought more about the Rossoblu fans than about his career.

“While Milan did a survey, I spoke to Moncada but told him that we had already chosen Tottenham. We are happy with the choice, Radu keeps it when he gives his word. Always.”

Chelsea in 'constant' Dybala contact

From one current Chelsea striker to a potentially future one now with the Blues potentially set to sign Roma's Paulo Dybala.

According to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Chelsea are in 'constant' contact with his representatives to potentially seal his signature.

However, it has been suggested that due to an injury, they could wait until the summer to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Burnley eye Chelsea's Fofana

Burnley are looking to sign striker David Datro Fofana from Chelsea after his recall.

The striker spent the first half of the season with Union Berlin but scored just one goal in 12 Bundesliga appearances. Now, according to The Athletic, Burnley are exploring a deal to take him to Turf Moor.

Spanish side Sevilla were previously credited with an interest in Fofana.

Edwards tight-lipped on Barkley future

Luton boss Rob Edwards has refused to confirm how long Ross Barkley's contract is following his stunning performances for the Hatters.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of this Friday's clash with Luton, he said: “I don’t think we ever said how long we signed him for. You’ll have to do a bit of research. He might have signed longer than that.

“I’m not going to say anything, we don’t like to give too much away but I’ll let people go and do their work.”

Bayern eye ex-Arsenal target

Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing Galatasaray star Sacha Boey after links with Arsenal.

That is according to Sky in Germany, who suggest that the defender is an option as the Bundesliga giants attempt to bolster their defence. It is suggested that they could move for Boey should they fail to convince PSG to sell Nordi Mukiele.

Personal terms with Boey will reportedly not be an issue.

Bonucci moves to Fenerbahce

While Dier has moved to Germany, one central defender has already quit the Bundesliga.

Turkish side Fenerbahce have announced the signing of Juventus icon Leonardo Bonucci. The Italian only joined the club in the summer but made just ten appearances.

Dier moves to Bayern

And the final deal of a Spurs trio, Eric Dier has seen his move to Bayern Munich confirmed.

The German giants have announced that he has joined on a loan deal until the end of the season with the option to make the move permanent.

Spence joins Genoa

Amid the excitement of Spurs signing Radu Dragusin, they have also announced the exit of Djed Spence.

The right-back was with Leeds earlier this season before his recall. He has now joined Dragusin's former club on a loan deal until the end of the campaign.

Tottenahm sign Dragusin

Tottenham have got their second deal of the window over the line with a swoop for Genoa defender Radu Dragusin.

He has penned a six-and-a-half year deal.

West Ham agree Coventry sale

West Ham have agreed the permanent sale of midfielder Conor Coventry to League One side Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

Academy graduate Coventry made his Premier League debut in August 2022 and has spent time out on loan at Lincoln City, Peterborough United, MK Dons and Rotherham United.

The 23-year-old's contract was due to expire at the end of the season and the Hammers have now decided to cash-in.

Sheffield Wednesday were also in the running for his signature but Coventry was given permission to undergo a medical at The Valley on Thursday.

Barco's Brighton move to be 'official'

Argentina starlet Valentin Barco is set to become a Brighton player, according to reports in South America.

That is suggested by TyCSports who suggest that Barco is set to complete his move after Boca Juniors received the money for the youngster.

He is set to put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Seagulls.

Fulham eye Serie A defender

Fulham could rekindle their interest in Alessio Romagnoli from Lazio this month.

The defender was linked with the Cottagers last year but a move failed to materialise.

Romagnoli, 28, is an Italy international and the left-back was part of their successful Euro 2020 squad.

But he is keen on a move to the Premier League and Fulham could bring him in as competition to Antonee Robinson.

Leicester edging towards deal

Championship leaders Leicester City look set to complete their first signing of the January window.

According to a number of reports in Italy, the Foxes are set to pay a nominal fee to sign Inter Milan midfielder Stefano Sensi. It is suggested that the midfielder has been convinced to move to the Championship by Enzo Maresca.

Sensi has made just a clutch of appearances for Inter so far this season.

Dragusin selects Spurs number

We've got Spurs' second signing of the summer incoming. The North London side are set to secure the £25m signing of Genoa defender Radu Dragusin.

According to reports in Italy, he will take the club's number 6 shirt. Defender Davinson Sanchez was the previous occupant of that number before moving to Galatasaray in the summer.

Arsenal eye Serie A sensation

Arsenal are reportedly interested in Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee.

That is according to The Telegraph, who suggest that the Gunners are keeping a close eye on the former Bayern Munich star. It is suggested that his current employers want to receive around £50m for his services so a January move looks slightly unlikely.

Everton 'identify Onana replacement'

Everton are considering a bid for Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka, according to The Guardian.

Onyeka has struggled for regular game time at Brentford and wants to leave on loan this month. He is valued at around £20million and has interest from Everton, Fulham and 'a number' of overseas clubs.

Everton's interest partly stems from the possibility that star midfielder Amadou Onana could be poached soon. Football.London says the Belgium international, who could cost £50m, is wanted by Arsenal.

Newcastle may need to sell stars

Newcastle chief executive Darren Eales has admitted Newcastle could “churn” players to open up legroom to spend over the next two windows.

The Magpies have lost £150million over the past two years and, although they are complaint with profit and sustainability rules, they don't have money to bring in new players this month.

It means prime assets like Bruno Guimaraes, who has a £99million release clause, star defender Sven Botman, plus homegrown academy kids like Sean Longstaff are at risk of being cashed in.

Dier undergoing Bayern medical

Eric Dier landed in Munich this morning and is now undergoing medical tests before signing for Bayern from Tottenham.

Bayern had previously been interested in signing Radu Dragusin from Genoa, but Spurs beat them to him. The German giants then moved for Dier, who hasn't been in favour under Ange Postecoglou and has just six months left on his contract.

Bayern are expected to pay Spurs around £3.4million for the 29-year-old, who will join up with his friend Harry Kane. "He's a specialist at centre-back. He has also played as a six in the Premier League, but not any more for a long time," Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel told a press conference on Thursday.

"We're getting him for the centre-back position, can play right or left centre-back as well as in back three."

Expert analysis of Sancho's exit

Mirror Football's David McDonnell has given his thoughts on Jadon Sancho's loan move from Manchester United back to Borussia Dortmund.

DONE DEAL: Wednesday sign striker

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Ike Ugbo on loan until the end of the season.

Ugbo was on loan from Troyes at Cardiff City, but was recalled to be sent out to Wednesday instead. He scored four goals in 22 games for Cardiff.

DONE DEAL: Sancho re-joins Dortmund

The saga is over (for now at least). Jadon Sancho has re-joined Borussia Dortmund on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season.

Although Dortmund are paying United a £3million fee for his services, the parent club will continue paying around £100,000 per week towards his wages.

Sancho is delighted and has evoked Michael Jordan on social media. He will wear the No10 shirt.
