Joey Barton has claimed he is being sued by Jeremy Vine in a social media post he has since deleted.

The former Manchester City midfielder has launched into a series of rants on social media over recent weeks. Some have been targeted at female football pundits, while he has also teared into Vine on a number of occasions.

In his latest outburst on Twitter, Barton claims the BBC Radio 2 presenter is beginning legal action against him. Barton shared pictures of what appeared to be legal documents and wrote: “So @theJeremyVine is suing me… Fella who served me the papers was sound.Told me he completely agreed with me and to keep going."

Barton’s latest claim is a culmination of growing tension between the pair. Vine previously shared his thoughts on Barton’s increasing outbursts, particularly after he compared female pundits Eni Aluko and Lucy Ward to serial killers Fred and Rose West.

He said: "What's going on with @Joey7Barton? I just glanced at the Rose West thing, then the @GNev2 spat, then his attack on Philip Schofield and the ITV reply ... genuinely, is it possible we are dealing with a brain injury here?"

Barton responded with further claims about the Covid-19 vaccine. "Stop talking about me on your s****y show," he wrote. "‘Hold people down and force a jab in their arm!’ That’s what you said you little weasel. Unlucky for you, it’s all recorded for posterity."

Barton added: "You just don’t like the truth. Government shrill. Use your program to talk about Israel indiscriminately bombing innocent women and children in Gaza. And the MSM and ministers silence about a mass genocide."

The former Newcastle man has continued to attack Vine on social media with a number of Covid-19-related jibes. Another tweet on Barton’s account on Thursday evening read: “How can you harass someone who follows you?

“Who has emailed you countless times asking you on his TV show? Who you initiated insults with by trying to gaslight. Saying they’d had a brain injury. Bizarre.”

Katy Hopkins recently weighed in on the ongoing spat between Vine and Barton with her own take. In a video posted to Twitter, she said: “Go on, Joey Barton you b***** brilliant b***** you.”

Mirror Sport approached Jeremy Vine and the BBC for comment.
