Strictly judges Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke have come out to support under-fire Giovanni Pernice.

The pro dancer, 33, has been rocked by claims Amanda Abbington, 51, has suffered PTSD since being paired with him on last year’s series – which she quit for personal reasons.

But Motsi, 42, and Anton, 57, pointedly liked his Instagram post about his new fragrance, VITA. And some followers thought Gio’s comments could allude to the events of the past few days.

Gio said: “My fragrance VITA (Italian for life) is just that, a celebration of life. Of positivity when there is so much around us which can be a cause for the opposite.” The BBC said it has not had any formal complaints from any of Gio’s dance partners and it was puzzled after Amanda asked to see rehearsal footage for a potential legal claim. Sources accept while there have been “moans” on his perfectionism, his conduct has never warranted a probe.

A spokesman added: “Strictly has a track record as a joyful experience where robust support and assistance is available.”
