A beautiful stretch of Welsh countryside and a charming seaside town feature as the backdrop for the hit ITV1 drama Mr Bates vs The Post Office.

The docu-drama has been gripping the nation for weeks after it shone a brighter light on the 20-year-long miscarriage of justice which saw subpostmasters' lives ruined and their finances destroyed. The programme shows how Alan Bates, played by Toby Jones, set up the Justice For Subpostmasters Alliance after he was accused of financial discrepancies at his Post Office, and eventually managed to clear his name.

Along with his partner Suzanne Sercombe, Alan used life savings to buy a Post Office branch in Llandudno in 1998. Two years later he faced false accusations of theft when money disappeared from his books. While he managed to avoid losing his business as many subpostmasters did, the Post Office ended his contract, meaning Alan and Suzanne lost their £60,000 investment.

The tragic tale of injustice has been brought to life in Llandudno where the couple fought for so long to clear their name. The show has helped to expose the North Wales town to a whole new audience who might've not known that the charming seaside idyll even exists.

As reported by WalesOnline a number of gorgeous locations were used for the show including a remote house in the middle of Eryri National Park (aka Snowdonia). In fact, a key setting in the show is Alan and Suzanne's house, which they move to after losing the Post Office.

The gorgeous, isolated house is set in the stunning Nant Ffrancon valley in Eryri National Park, a steep-sided glacial valley dropping to Bethesda between the Glyderau and the Carneddau. The drama also showcases the Nant Ffrancon Pass' amazing scenery as the incredible valley rises up, with the house nestled in, looking like a picture-perfect postcard.

Meanwhile, eagle-eyed fans have also recognised the picturesque seaside town of Llandudno as another of the settings for the show. Gorgeous aerial shots of the beach are used in the programme, along with footage of the Great Orme Tramway and scenes from the very recognisable pier.

Llandudno's seaside location, elegant pier and clean beaches are among its star attractions. One of its most popular areas is the North Shore Beach promenade, where you can enjoy a variety of water sports and family-friendly games throughout the year.

The sheltered beach has a beautiful Victorian-style pier and a promenade that runs from the foot of Great Orme to Little Orme. The eastern end of the promenade is popular with families as it has a playground, paddling pool, restaurants and cafes.

Northeast of Llandudno is where you can explore a maze of copper mines dating back to the Bronze Age and slide down the longest toboggan ride in Wales. The narrow tunnels here date back to the Bronze Age and feature a 145-metre-deep Victorian mine shaft. If you are not claustrophobic then the tiny passageways - many of which were built by children - are worth exploring.

Another great feature is the Great Orme tramway which has been carting passengers to and from Llandudno since the 1900s.

It is one of the oldest street tramways in the world and takes passengers through the picturesque Great Orme Country Park and Nature Reserve. Return tickets cost around £8 for adults and £6 for children between 3 and 16 years old.

The Llandudno Cable Car is a somewhat surprising attraction in the local area which carries passengers from the Happy Valley Botanical Gardens towards the Great Orme Summit Complex. Once at the top you will be treated to panoramic views of the Irish Sea.

Established in 1969, it’s one of the longest cable car systems in Great Britain, with the highest peak at 80 feet above sea level. The Great Orme Complex features a restaurant, bar, and souvenir shops, as well as family-friendly facilities such as an adventure playground and a golf centre.
