Moment boy, 14, is arrested after cops used stinger following chase through city
This is the moment a 14-year-old boy was arrested after leading police on a chase through a city in a car he allegedly stole and drove under the influence of cannabis.
Officers had to deploy a stinger to puncture the vehicle's tyres and stop the youth, following the pursuit thought to be of around three miles on Sunday. Dashcam footage shared with the Mirror today shows a police car tear down a dual-carriageway amid the high-speed pursuit, and the blue Hyundai i20 reach a halt after encountering the stinger device.
Four teenagers, all wearing balaclavas, are seen exiting the vehicle and running away from the A610 near its junction with the M1 in Kimberley, Nottinghamshire. Officers are filmed running on foot after the youths, all of whom were later arrested.
Three were released without charge but the the fourth, a 14-year-old child believed to be the driver of the car, has been bailed pending the results of a blood sample. He was detained on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, drug-driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

The force received a call from a resident, who said their Hyundai i20 had been taken from outside his home in New Basford, a suburb in Nottingham, around three miles from where the car was stopped.

The car was spotted around 40 minutes later being driven towards Kimberley by a Response officer in a police car. A second police vehicle swiftly arrived and the Hyundai i20 was safely stopped following a brief pursuit along the A610 eastbound, close to the M1.
PC Dan Bird, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was an opportunist theft of a vehicle and the consequences could have been catastrophic. There is absolutely no excuse for anyone to ever get behind the wheel while they’re under the influence of drugs or alcohol – never mind a child without a driver’s licence.
"This type of offending can literally destroy lives, whether it’s for those who are harmed, their loved ones who have to pick up the pieces, or the person who is under the influence and their passengers.
"Our investigation remains ongoing and anyone who witnessed the theft of the car should call police on 101, quoting incident number 385 of 7 January, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
