Meghan Markle has come a long way since her noughties fashion looks on Hollywood's red carpet when she was known for her role on TV shows like HBO's Suits.

The Duchess of Sussex had some questionable fashion ensembles before she became the polished and perfect former royal we recognise today. The former Suits actress was nowhere to be seen at the Golden Globes in Los Angeles on Sunday (7 January) but she has previously been a red carpet regular prior to her 2018 marriage to Prince Harry.

We've looked back at some of her former wardrobe choices in the past decade when she still held prominent roles in the acting industry...

In 2005, when Meghan was just 24 she wore a more relaxed and fresh faced style including laidback jeans, tshirts and a baseball cap. In 2006, she'd swapped California flip flops for heels as she donned a more polished looking outfit to attend an event in aid of The National Kidney Foundation.

By 2007 Meghan was pulling together more red carpet looks including strapless dresses and heels to attend the Golden Globes. By 2011, when the actress had made her debut in Suits, she was a red carpet regular and was spotted in chic mini dresses as well as fitted peplum bodycon dresses to attend events. By 2016, the actress had met her future husband Prince Harry, and she was regularly donning designer dresses and appearing at events in Hollywood. When the star married her royal beau in 2018, she had firmly stepped back from red carpets and acting and no longer attended awards ceremonies, including the Golden Globes.

This year's Golden Globes was the perfect opportunity for Hollywood to dress up and show off their best outfits, with Meghan reportedly 'too busy' to attend. A source claimed the Duchess of Sussex actually was invited to the glitzy ceremony but turned down the offer, citing that she was simply too busy to attend. A Golden globes source told Page Six: "We asked the duchess, but we were told that, unfortunately, she had a previous commitment."

At this year's red carpet for the Golden Globes it was a Suits reunion as four of the drama's main cast appeared together. Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht posed up a storm for the cameras, before later being joined onstage by Gina Torres and Sarah Rafferty. Yet Meghan was nowhere to be seen, and with a Suits comeback still being discussed for Netflix it appears she might not be included in that either.

Despite not being present at the awards, Meghan was still mentioned as comedian host Jo Koy made some brutal comments about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during his opening monologue. Addressing the audience, Jo spoke very highly of Imelda Staunton for her work portraying the late Queen Elizabeth II in the final season of The Crown. "How great was Imelda Staunton in The Crown, wasn’t she amazing? Her portrayal of the Queen was so good Prince Harry called her and asked her for money," he said. Jo then acknowledged the savage joke and continued: "Like I said, I didn't write all of these! That one wasn't mine! Prince Harry and Meghan will still be paid millions of dollars for doing absolutely nothing - and that's just by Netflix!"
