Adele Roberts is making history as Dancing on Ice’s first contestant to skate with a stoma bag – and has vowed to “reclaim her body” after surviving cancer.

The 44-year-old radio presenter, who is best known for her work on BBC Radio 1 and appearing on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, was diagnosed with stage two bowel cancer in 2021, but after treatment was relieved to be given the all-clear the following year.

Now she lives life with a stoma bag, which she has affectionately called Audrey. The bag is on the right side of her stomach and allows waste to leave her body after she lost part of her colon due to surgery.

As she prepares to star in this year’s Dancing on Ice, which kicks off on ITV on Sunday night, Adele revealed the one thing she had to relearn before she could do it. She shared: “I’ve noticed that because I’ve got a hole on the right side of my torso, I don’t have a centre where it used to be. I’m having to relearn how to use my body actually and rotation is quite hard.”

Though she has had to learn how to move again from scratch, Adele confessed it’s actually helped her to “reclaim her body” and “connect” with it again. The DJ explained to OK! magazine: “I’ve got to really think about my movement on the ice, but it’s helped me to connect with my body, so it’s been a blessing as well. I wanted to do this to reclaim my body after what it’s been through. I feel like it’s allowing me to take back who I am again.”

Her recent health battles have led to Adele feeling “fearless” about getting on the ice and she is determined to impress the judges when she takes to the ice with professional partner Mark Hanretty, who has previously been paired with the likes of Kimberly Wyatt and Carley Stenson.

She shared: “I don’t really get worried about things like that and I don’t mind falling over. I just think, at the end of the day, I’ve got my small intestine poking out my stomach – there’s not much worse than that really.”

Someone else who can't wait for the show to start is Holly Willoughby, who has has agreed to make her TV comeback as host next month. ITV bosses are "delighted" that Holly is ready to return to work and host a national TV show once again, after quitting her job as This Morning anchor back in October after she learned of an alleged plot to kidnap and murder her. The presenter will be joined by Stephen Mulhern as her new co-host - although the pair have worked together before.

*Dancing on Ice starts on Sunday January 14 on ITV at 6.30pm
