Jake Cornish could be returning to the Love Island villa with his tail between his legs - after previously slating the show.

The 26-year-old reality star was a contestant on season seven of the hit ITV dating show back in 2021 when he entered into a doomed romance with 24-year-old Liberty Poole. He is now due to return to the show in the new All Stars spin off - which is also due to feature Liberty as well.

Jake and Liberty were immediate favourites to win the 2021 season and their romance went from strength to strength in the show. But disaster struck in the final week when Liberty was shown a clip of Jake complaining that he wasn’t as sexually attracted to her as she thought he had been.

The jaw dropping moment torpedoed the romance and left Liberty’s confidence ruined - and the pair sensationally quit the show days before the live final. After exiting the show, Jake slammed Love Island to everyone that would listen.

He whined in a past interview: "There's stuff I have spoken to Lib about on camera that hasn't aired about how I was feeling. It isn't nice I've been painted this way as a pantomime villain. It isn't the nicest to come across as someone I'm not. During the Movie Night they had to bring back a clip from Day Two to make me look bad. I'm sorry but Day Two? Everyone's got opinions but that was taken out of context. I had to sit back and take it.

"They've got to make storylines but it isn't nice when you're on the back end. Liberty and I were big parts of the show; it was a way to make something out of it, which is a shame really. At the time I was like 'what the hell?'"

Jake then added to MailOnline: "The Movie Night was the turning point. It went from 0-100 straight away and because it's such an intense environment in there your head just goes into overdrive. It wasn't the nicest of feelings I'll tell you that for a fact. It was me on the back end of it for many weeks and trying to deal with it in there, you've got six different opinions all against you, it is going to take a knock-on effect.

"I got a bigger backlash than Liam when I didn't get with any girl and was loyal and I'm the one that's come out the worst – how does that work?"

A spokesperson for ITV said at the time: "The opinions they have, decisions they make and the relationships formed are completely within the control of the Islanders themselves. It is always our intention to produce a show that is a fair and accurate representation of life in the villa."

But now past bad feelings about the show seem to have either been forgotten or glossed over - as Jake is set for another stab at love and fame by signing up to Love Island: All Stars - which kicks off on ITV next week. Discussing his return to the franchise, Jake said: “There is nothing major I would do differently but I have definitely matured in the two years since first being on the show.

“I look at things differently and respond differently. When it comes to people's opinions, I don’t sit on the fence anymore. That is my way of life now, so I will take that into the Villa.” And asked if he would be concerned about an ex walking into the villa, he said: “Well there is only one and that’s Liberty. We never ended with any bad blood between us and everything happens for a reason. We just become two different people in the end.”
