Michael Chandler responds to Conor McGregor's unofficial UFC fight announcement
Michael Chandler is 100 per cent confident he will be fighting Conor McGregor this summer after their unofficial UFC fight announcement.
McGregor claims he will be making his UFC return against Chandler at middleweight on June 29 to headline the promotion's International Fight Week. The fight hasn't been made official by the UFC which has led to some fans claiming it won't take place, but Chandler explained why he thinks otherwise.
“I have 100 per cent confidence that I am fighting Conor McGregor on June 29," he told ESPN. "It’s a crazy sport, injuries and sicknesses happen with anybody. The fight isn’t happening until both of us are in the cage and the first bell rings. With Conor, one thing I will give him credit for is has he ever pulled out a fight?

"People can say what they want to be at Conor I have no problem giving him props, he does what he says he’s going to do when it comes to fighting. Who he’s fighting, where here’s fighting and what weight he’s fighting. That’s one thing I have 100 percent confidence and one thing I will tip my hat to him on.

McGregor has said the fight will be taking place at middleweight, which would mark both his and Chandler's debuts at the weight division. McGregor started his UFC career as a featherweight but has also competed at lightweight and welterweight, whilst Chandler has been competing at lightweight for most of his fighting career.
"I don't care if he wants to fight at middleweight, welterweight or light-heavyweight, whatever it might be. He doesn't want to fight at 155lb because he wants everyone to believe he's bigger than he is. In his mind, he can't fight at 170lb because I called him out at 170lb, therefore I'm not doing as I'm told he is doing what I said so he had to say 185lb," Chandler said.
McGregor would join an elite group of UFC fighters if the fight does take place at middleweight, as only Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez have fought at four weight classes for the promotion. The Irishman would also become the only UFC fighter in history to record knockout wins in four different weight classes if he can stop Chandler.
