A Love Island contestant who sensationally quit the show in 2022 has hinted they are heading back to the villa for the upcoming All Stars spin-off series.

Professional rugby player Jacques O'Neil was a contestant on season eight of the ITV reality show and entered the villa on day seven. And despite enjoying dalliances with Paige Thorne and Danica Taylor, the 24-year-old sports star decided to walk away from the contest on day 37.

Jacques explained he had to leave the contest as he realised he had not been feeling like himself since the events of that season’s Casa Amor - and while he told Paige he would wait for her on the outside, the pair didn’t reignite their romance once the season was over. Now ITV will soon film a spin-off show titled Love Island: All Stars which will see past contestants return to the villa for another chance at romance - and Jacques has heavily hinted he is one of the returning contestants.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, the reality show hunk teased his fans as he shared a photograph from inside an airport terminal. The image showed several shops and restaurants indoors.

A telling sign showed an arrow directing passengers to ‘All gates’ along with the image of a taking-off plane. Fans could see unmistakeable airport lounge chairs lined up against a wall. Jacques himself didn’t add too much more to the image - except for adding a sideways eyes emoji to the image. Fans jumped on the image to start speculating that he must be heading to South Africa to film the new Love Island show. One fan re-posted the image on Instagram and asked: "After being rumoured to join the cast at Love Island All Stars #jacquesoneill is seen catching a flight. Where is he travelling to..."

The sports star previously said Love Island ‘broke’ him during his disastrous 2022 appearance. He said in an interview after quitting the show: “Doing Love Island was the worst decision of my life. I was ready to break down... I was feeling so mentally drained, I just wanted to go home and get myself right. It broke me and I was already broken. I was crying my eyes out. I couldn’t cope. I was literally feeling awful. It was the worst I’d ever felt in my life."

He explained that producers attempted to get him to stay, but he refused. He said: “Producers tried coming to me, they were like, ‘Jacques, are you OK?’ I was saying, ‘I don’t want to speak to you or anyone. I want to be left to myself.’ It was too much. I was saying to them, ‘This is more than a TV show to me’, it was genuine feelings involved and my headspace wasn’t right to be in a TV show. I dealt with stuff in there that I’ve never dealt with in my life.”

Meanwhile, the official Love Island social media accounts have been doing everything possible to whip up excitement for the new show - flagging that the new series is just a day away. The show’s X/Twitter account has been teasing a reveal of the contestants in "less than 24 hours" adding: "The All Star Islanders are on their way / Say hello to some familiar faces in less than 24 hours… #LoveIsland ".
