HAVE a dabble on DIBBLE DECKER (2.40). It’s going to be testing ground at Wincanton and my fancy was successful on one of his only two starts on soft.

That was at Taunton over hurdles and his three other victories came at Huntingdon, so he clearly appreciates flat, right-handed tracks like Wincanton.

He didn’t run particularly well over this track and trip behind today’s top weight Huelgoat last time out in November but that was on his first start of the season.

It’s not hard to expect plenty of improvement for that return to action and his trainer Tom Lacey has his team in great form. Have 2pts to win at 10-1.

Earlier on the card, MINI YEATS (2.05) should enjoy the return to Wincanton.

He’s run three of his best races over this course and distance. There was a lot to like about the way he stayed on down the Wincanton straight on his first run for more than a year in a maiden hurdle just before Christmas.

He’s a strong stayer over this 1m7f distance and the heavy conditions will bring his stamina into play on this return to handicaps. That comeback run should have put the edge on him and this is not a strong race. Have 1pt each-way at 8-1. Several bookies are going four places.

Sandown’s abandonment means Newcastle gets a day in the spotlight on ITV.

CARRIGEEN CASTLE (2.50) ran an awful lot better than his final finishing position on his chasing debut at Hexham last month.

He didn’t show all that much in seven hurdles starts when trained in Ireland by Jim Dreaper and it was a similar story on his first run for in-form Micky Hammond following a 20-month break. There’s a fair chance he will end up being a much better chaser. He was still in there pitching turning for home at Hexham before weakening up the straight.

He’ll last a lot longer today and he’s got champion jockey Brian Hughes in the saddle. Have 1pt each-way at 8-1.

SCALLOWAY BAY (3.25) was never going to be quick enough held up in rear in 2m novice hurdles.

He’s a full brother of trainer Nick Alexander’s strong staying mud-lover Up Helly Aa King and his pedigree is all about stamina. The step up to 2m4f on testing ground should be ideal for this handicap debut. Have 1pt each-way at 11-1. Plenty of bookies are paying out on four places.
