Golf icon Colin Montgomerie marries for third time after wedding his manager
Colin Montgomerie described his third wedding as "just the perfect day" after marrying manager Sarah Casey.
British golf legend Montgomerie confirmed via Instagram that he'd tied the knot for a third time, and the announcement took many fans by surprise. The couple married at Coworth Park in Ascot, Berkshire, the same luxury hotel where Prince Harry and Prince William bunked the night before the former wed Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, in 2018.
And 'Monty' looked dressed for the occasion as he turned out in a classic black tux. New spouse Sarah—who appears to have already changed her Facebook name to 'Montgomerie'—meanwhile did away with tradition in favour of a sparkling silver dress on the big day.
Where do you think Monty ranks among Britain's best golfers of all time? Let us know in the comments section.
Former U.S. Open champion Justin Rose was among the big names to wish Montgomerie "congratulations." Fellow PGA Tour Champions contender Mark Wiebe also wished his colleague well, commenting: "Happy for you buddy!"
Bubba Watson shares details of horror knee injury ahead of LIV Golf debutCasey's relationship with Montgomerie dates back to at least 2009 when she helped manage his affairs while at European Golf Design. Monty was still in the early days of his second marriage to ex-wife Gaynor Knowles at that point, however.
He and Knowles didn't divorce until 2017 after an ugly end to their relationship was played out in court. The Herald reported at the time that Montgomerie had admitted in an Edinburgh court to 'a number of affairs' while married to Knowles.
The former Ryder Cup-winning captain was first wed to another Scot, Eimear Wilson, in 1990 when he was still a fresh face on the professional circuit. The couple were married for 14 years before their relationship also ended in court proceedings.
Montgomerie will hope such matters are a thing of the past after tying the knot with Casey. Although a Rangers supporter by birth, the 59-year-old adopted Leeds United as his team after living in Yorkshire and joked he and his new wife are due many visits to Elland Road in future.
The pair are clearly comfortable in one another's company considering their working relationship blossomed into a romance, and Casey now travels with Montgomerie on the Champions Tour. It's suspected the two were already an item in 2020 when Montgomerie said he was 'happier than he's ever been,' and fans now have new insight into why that's the case.
