Sky has announced a brand-new, behind-the-scenes documentary series exploring the world of darts is officially in the works. The thrilling 2023/2024 PDC World Championship came to a nail-biting end on Wednesday, as 16-year-old wunderkind Luke Littler missed out on a title in his debut tournament to 28-year-old Luke Humphries.

Following the conclusion of the championship, Sky Documentaries has announced it has commissioned a celebratory access all areas premium docuseries. Titled Darts, the series will follow the world of professional darts and be available on Sky and NOW later this year.

This year’s tournament has captured the attention of the nation, as Luke ‘The Nuke’ came close to cementing himself in history in one of sport’s most remarkable stories. Sadly, his fairytale ending wasn’t meant to be – after coming from behind in a tense couple of sets the youngster eventually lost 7-4 in front of a packed Alexandra Palace crowd.

The world of darts is now more popular than ever – the World Championship held every Christmas at London’s ‘Ally Pally’ sells out in minutes and millions tune in to watch worldwide. Sky Sports’ have reported that Wednesday’s final is its most-watched non-football event in history.

It will also hear from the families who support them to achieve their dreams, as well as those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to create this global phenomenon. It will chart what it’s really like to be a darts player in today’s world: the ups and downs, the humour, the camaraderie, as well as the sacrifices they make to win the biggest prize in the game.

Darts will be available to watch exclusively on Sky Documentaries, which is currently included in a new year deal that comes with a huge £180 saving. Savvy shoppers can currently get this “lowest price” limited-time deal with Sky TV, Sky Stream, Netflix and full fibre broadband for £39 a month.

Darts is produced by the award-winning documentary production company Dorothy St Pictures for Sky, whose previous credits include Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story and Pamela, A Love Story. It’s co-produced by John Skipper’s US-based Meadowlark in conjunction with the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation).
