A Coronation Street legend has come up with a theory to return to the cobbles despite their character being dramatically killed off five years ago.

On Thursday's This Morning, Nigel Havers appeared on the ITV show to talk about his current pantomime production, Peter Pan, starring alongside the likes of Jennifer Saunders and Julian Clary.

However, chat soon got onto Coronation Street, where Nigel, 72, played Lewis Archer on-off from 2009 until the character's tragic death in 2019. Soap watchers will recall that Lewis dropped dead just moments before he was set to propose to Audrey Roberts on New Year's episodes after suffering a heart attack. In tragic scenes, Lewis was found lying on the floor while clutching his engagement ring for Audrey.

Asked about a possible cobbles return on Thursday's This Morning, Nigel quipped of his character: "I had a heart attack and died!" to which host Rylan Clark pointed out: "That means nothing in soap!"

Nigel continued of his character: "Apparently I have a twin brother living in Australia..." to which Rylan joked: "Here we go, [This Morning soap queen] Sharon Marshall is already on the phone! Would you ever go back if they came up with something like that?"

The actor remained coy, although admitted: "Of course, never ever say never, we're mad to do that!" This isn't the first time Nigel has teased a return and in 2019 he suggested he could come back as his character Lewis' twin.

Nigel wasn't the only Coronation Street character on Thursday's This Morning as cobbles newcomer Jack Carroll has revealed what soap watchers can expect from his character Bobby ahead of a 'blockbuster' storyline.

Only recently, Carla Connor was left stunned when she learnt she has a secret nephew as new character Bobby, played by Pride of Britain winner and Britain’s Got Talent finalist Jack, 25, arrived on the cobbles last month.

Bobby revealed he is the son of her killer brother Rob Donovan. Just as Carla was dealing with her heartbreak after her split from Peter Barlow, who left the soap on Boxing Day, Bobby showed up and dropped the news they are related. Bobby delivered a sob story, only for his dad to make contact with sister Carla and reveal what was really going on.

Carla explained that he can stay with her for a few weeks but soon realised he could be sticking around when his possessions were dumped on the street via a delivery van courtesy of Bobby's mother. So far, Bobby has been causing chaos on the cobbles by chatting up Debbie and in upcoming scenes, Amy Barlow catches his eye.

Appearing on Thursday's This Morning, Jack said of his character having an 'eye for the ladies': "Well, I think that will develop over the coming weeks! We will kind of see where it takes him, I think those developments will be very interesting going forward into this year and they really develop into, I found out recently, a big blockbuster kind of storyline. It's really exciting!"

Teasing the big storyline further, he added: "We've filmed some of them, so I think it will be over the next few months, those seeds will start developing. Very exciting indeed!"

airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and X.
