Emmerdale to air sad David Metcalfe confession as Leyla and Eric make discovery
Emmerdale drops some news about David Metcalfe and the truth about him fleeing the village in the next episode of the ITV soap.
Two residents make a discovery and learn a sad admission about David's recent exit, as they learn of a secret romance. According to spoilers, the hour-long episode on Thursday night sees David's son Jacob Gallagher and ex Victoria Sugden finally share their romance with the village.
Jacob and Victoria have been on and off for months, and a few weeks ago David learned they were together. David had hoped to get back with Victoria, only to spot her kissing Jacob.
David lashed out at the pair and even tried to suggest Victoria was as bad as his ex Maya Stepney, who sexually abused underage Jacob a few years ago on the show. Eventually David left the village for good saddened by the romance, while he was also going to see his daughter Amba in London.
His loved ones believe this is the sole reason for his departure, but they're about to find out the truth. Victoria and Jacob decide they no longer want to hide their romance and tell his mother Leyla Harding and grandfather Eric Pollard the truth.
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundariesLeyla and Eric also learn the sad news that heartbroken David moved away to be away from Victoria and Jacob. Spoilers do not reveal how they react, but what will Leyla think of the romance? How will Eric feel when he finds out why his son really left the village during his time of need?
It comes as actor Matthew Wolfenden confirmed back in September that he was leaving the ITV soap as David after 17 years after it was reported he was set to leave. The actor bowed out of the role after joining the show in 2006 and Matthew, 43, broke down in tears on This Morning as he confirmed the reports and watched back his best bits on the ITV soap in September.
David had been at the centre of some huge plots over the years, including his partner Maya grooming and sexually abusing his then-teenage son Jacob. David also battled testicular cancer in a hard-hitting storyline and nearly got killed off by village murderer Meena Jutla.
After watching his best bits on Emmerdale, Matthew got teary as he said: "That made me really emotional! I am so nervous about leaving, nearly 20 years, almost two decades. It feels like the right time, the door has been left open - they're not killing me off, I've been promised. Who knows, I might be back [in the future]. Yeah, but we will see."
Matthew then struggled to speak as he got choked up again, saying: "I'm still really emotional watching that" to which he was given a tissue, he added that Emmerdale is a "massive" part of his life."
