Sancho gets Man Utd exit approval as Ten Hag warned over Antony replacement

John Barnes has fully endorsed Jadon Sancho's potential move to Borussia Dortmund as he looks to get out of Manchester United.

The winger is currently frozen out of the first-team picture after clashing with Erik ten Hag earlier this season. A social media post was not welcomed by the United boss, who has opted against selecting him or even allowing him to train with the squad.

United want a resolution to the saga sooner rather than later and Sancho's former side, who sold him to the Red Devils for £73million in 2021, are in talks over a loan switch. At Dortmund, the England international thrived and a return could allow him to recapture his best form.

Barnes told mybettingsites.co.uk: "Dortmund is a great move for Sancho. The harmony is good, the togetherness and the fans like him due to his time at the club. People won’t treat him like he’s a superstar and Germany is always a great place for young players to go. He’s a great player. He's skilful and intelligent so I would like to see him back in Germany."

Sancho has underwhelmed throughout his time in Manchester but is not the only expensive forward to fall below expectations. Antony, among the club's most expensive signings in history, has flopped since scoring against Arsenal on his debut last year.

The Brazilian has failed to score or provide an assist for Ten Hag's side this term, which means he is no longer guaranteed a starting berth. A move away has been touted as United consider cutting their losses under their new minority ownership.

Antony's poor form has cast doubt over his future (PA)

Michael Olise, who has scored against the Red Devils for Crystal Palace, has been touted as a possible signing as United look to bolster their options in the final third. Barnes though, despite Antony's struggles, is not convinced the Manchester outfit would be getting a better player.

"Olise isn't necessarily an upgrade," he said. "Just because he's doing well at Palace doesn't mean he's an upgrade on Antony. Things just haven’t worked out for Antony. Olise is a confident player who can play for any of the big clubs. There was talk of Manchester City and Liverpool both being interested in Olise."
