Arsenal continue to be linked with Ivan Toney, as the striker prepares to make his long-awaited return to the Premier League.

The England international, 27, is on the verge of completing an eight-month ban for breaching the Football Association's betting rules. He's one of the most exciting strikers in the Premier League after scoring 20 goals in the competition for Brentford last season.

The Bees are determined to keep hold of the £100million-rated star after losing Bryan Mbeumo to a serious ankle injury and Yoane Wissa to the Africa Cup of Nations. We'll have more information on Toney's proposed transfer to Arsenal right here. Stay tuned...

Do you think Arsenal will sign Mbappe?

Arsenal urged to make Olise move

Arsenal have been urged to sign Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise in January in order to provide a challenge to Bukayo Saka.

"You know the name that they’ve gone after, and I think it’s worth mentioning because Arsenal could use a player like that, I think to a degree Liverpool could use a player like that, and the name of that player for Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool is Michael Olise,” former US international Janusz Michallik told ESPN.

"I know Liverpool are loaded, but Mo Salah, there’s always that talk maybe he’ll leave, maybe he’ll go elsewhere. You’d like to have a player that’s capable.

"Saka could use a player that challenges him. Olise could play probably on both sides. But part of Arsenal’s issue is that there’s no time to ever rest these players."

Will Mbappe join Arsenal?

Kylian Mbappe is now free to talk to Premier League clubs after entering the final six months of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.

The French giants want to keep hold of the 25-year-old forward, while Real Madrid are the favourites to sign him.

He's allowed to agree a pre-contract deal with clubs based outside of France.

Will Mbappe move to the Premier League? A summer move to the so-called 'best league in the world' certainly isn't impossible - for that very reason.

But, with no transfer fee involved, he'll likely demand a huge signing-on fee and a wage that makes him one of the best-paid players - if not the best - in the Premier League.

Are Arsenal willing to break the bank to lure Mbappe to London? Right now, it seems unlikely. But a lot can change over the next six months.

Arsenal eye long-term target as exit closes

Arsenal are set to offload Mohamed Elneny which will allow them to make a move for Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi.

Everton chiefs face transfer backlash from fans after deadline day disasterEverton chiefs face transfer backlash from fans after deadline day disaster

The Gunners have continued to invest in recent seasons and spent a further £200million in the summer, which leaves them with little room to spend as a result of Financial Fair Play restrictions.

It means Mikel Arteta will have to offload players before he can consider any arrivals.

Elneny's contract will expire in the summer and the Daily Mail reports that Turkish sides Trabzonspor and Besiktas have both made offers to take the Egyptian off the Gunners' hands.

Any deal is likely to be accepted which would free Arteta to move for a player he greatly admires in Zubimendi.

The Sociedad star was on Arsenal's radar this time last year, reports the Athletic, and it has been further claimed that the north London club 'love' the midfielder.

The 24-year-old, who has been capped by Spain, opted to remain in his homeland and has been part of his team's journey into the knockouts of the Champions League.

Toney doubts raised

Arsenal have been warned that Ivan Toney is the wrong man for them as MIkel Arteta looks to boost his options at striker.

"His numbers are very good, but he does score an awful lot of penalties," Michael Owen told Premier League Productions.

"You mentioned the figure earlier that about 60 per cent of his goals are penalties, which is an awful lot.

"And is he good enough? He’s a very, very good player. To be an Arsenal centre-forward going for the league. I just reeled off three names before.

"We are talking about some of the best strikers ever in recent times. World-class players. Is he of that level? It’s a big question mark. He has done it for Brentford, but whether he could up his game at Arsenal is different."

Who do you think Arsenal should sign in January?

Let us know in the comments below!

Arsenal consider Tierney recall

Arsenal are considering recalling Kieran Tierney due to Oleksandr Zinchenko's injury issues.

The Scotland international was sent on loan to Real Sociedad in the summer and has enjoyed his time in La Liga.

But with Zinchenko injured, it's believed the Gunners are considering utilising a break clause in his loan deal to bring him back.

That's according to the Daily Express.

Arsenal's world class problem?

Do Arsenal need more in the market to aid their attack?

Jamie Carragher admits that none of their front four would be in the world class category.

He said on Sky Sports: "All four of Arsenal's front are top players but none of them are world class.

"I think Saka can become world class, but in this league Liverpool won a title because they had Mo Salah.

"City have won titles in the past because they had [Sergio] Aguero and they've now got Haaland. Is that enough for Arsenal to win a league title?

"Are any of them world class right now to take Arsenal to a title? I'd say no."

Partey going nowhere

Thomas Partey's hopes of leaving Arsenal in January are all but over due to his thigh injury.

Juventus were interested in signing the Ghana international, 30, but have decided against making a bid, according to reports in Italy.

Partey has also been left out of Ghana's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations due to his injury.

Juventus name Vlahovic price

Juventus want £50million for Dusan Vlahovic, according to Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old is believed to be a transfer target for Arsenal, who are looking to sign a striker this month.

Arsenal's No.1 target Ivan Toney could prove too expensive at £100m.

Arsenal's Man Utd battle

Arsenal's hopes of signing Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps have been revived after England's No.1 signed with a new agency.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper is out of contract in June and many top European clubs - including the Gunners - are interested.

Earps is arguably the best stopper on the planet after saving a penalty in the Women's World Cup final - which Spain won - and winning the Golden Glove award in the Women's Super League.

She was recently named as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Negotiations between United and Earps are expected to continue, as the Red Devils want to keep hold of one of the biggest names in the women's game.

But this year might be Arsenal's best chance to sign the superstar at the peak of her powers.

No sell-on clause in Toney deal

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed there is no sell-on clause in Ivan Toney's contract.

Brentford signed Toney, 27, from Peterborough for £10million in August 2020.

Reports suggested the Posh included a 30 per cent sell-on clause in that deal, which would drive up Brentford's price in the event of a sale and therefore force Arsenal to pay more.

The Gunners are hoping to sign Toney this month.

Yet MacAnthony has confirmed there is no such sell-on clause, calling the reports "complete misinformation".

Arsenal urged to sign Toney

Paul Merson believes Arsenal should break the bank to sign Ivan Toney.

The Brentford striker, 27, is rated at £100million. Arsenal are fourth in the Premier League, five points behind leaders Liverpool.

"They need a centre-forward," Merson told Sky Sports. "There is no doubt about that in my opinion. (Gabriel) Jesus had two chances (in the home defeat) at West Ham, they are gimmes really for someone like an Ivan Toney.

"For me there is a long way to go. Arsenal are still in it. I still think they have got to get Ivan Toney. I don't think they win the league if they don't get a centre-forward."

Arteta's back-up plan

Mikel Arteta could recall Marquinhos from his loan spell at Nantes this month if he fails to sign a new striker, according to reports in France.

The 20-year-old winger has failed to score in seven appearances for Nantes this season, providing just one assist.

Elneny interest

Several clubs want to sign Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny this month, according to the Daily Mail.

The Egypt international, 31, is out of contract in June and has played just one minute of Premier League football this season.

Turkish sides Trabzonspor and Besiktas are among those interested in Elneny.

Elsewhere...

Wayne Rooney has been sacked as manager of Birmingham City.

The former England captain won just two of his 15 games in charge.

We'll have more Arsenal news shortly.

Luiz on transfer

Douglas Luiz has already rubbished the idea of leaving Aston Villa for Arsenal this month.

The Brazilian told Sky Sports in December: "I am very happy to hear the stories but I am here at Aston Villa. My focus is totally here.

"I don't spend a lot of time looking at the stories. I see them, but I don't focus on that and I'm not looking at it every day. My head is here at Aston Villa."

Arsenal's Toney alternative

Arsenal are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface, according to reports in Spain.

The 23-year-old striker, who is valued at £34.7million by Transfermarkt, has scored 16 goals and provided eight assists in 23 appearances this season.

Boniface is likely to cost a lot more than £34.7m, with the striker leading Leverkusen's unlikely Bundesliga title charge.

Xabi Alonso's side are four points clear of Bayern Munich in second having played a game more.

Who do you think Arsenal should sign in January?

Earps update

Mary Earps has signed with a new agency amid mounting speculation over the Lionesses' future.

It's thought Arsenal are interested in signing England's No.1, who is out of contract in the summer.

The 30-year-old is currently on Manchester United's books.

Partey misses out

Thomas Partey has not been included in Ghana's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The tournament in the Ivory Coast starts this month.

Partey, 30, hasn't played since October due to a thigh injury.

The Arsenal midfielder's injury also raises doubts over a January transfer.

He's no longer a guaranteed starter at the Emirates and been linked with a transfer away, with Juventus and clubs in Saudi Arabia thought to be interested.

Yet his Ghana omission has cooled those rumours.

Arsenal miss Xhaka - Morgan

Piers Morgan believes Arsenal are missing Granit Xhaka's physicality in midfield.

Xhaka, 31, was allowed to join Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen during the summer.

"Arsenal are being bullied by teams who've realised our midfield/attack is very skilful, but physically weak," Morgan, who supports Arsenal, wrote on X on New Year's Eve.

"We need more muscle. I miss Xhaka. Arsenal look a pale imitation of last year's swaggering team... You can't lose to Aston Villa, West Ham and Fulham in the space of 3 weeks and expect to win the Premier League.

"It's over before we even get to 2024."

Ramsdale's next club

Aaron Ramsdale is no longer guaranteed of a starting spot at Arsenal.

But what are the chances of a January move.

According to Sky Bet, not that likely.

Here are the latest odds...

  • Newcastle: 3/1
  • Wolves: 10/1
  • Nottingham Forest: 12/1
  • Bournemouth, Brentford, Sheffield United and West Ham: 20/1

Who else are Arsenal interested in?

Ivan Toney is Arsenal's No.1 striker target.

But who else could the Gunners swoop for if Brentford refuse to sell him?

Victor Osimhen is on their shortlist, yet there's a £120m release clause in his Napoli contract.

And what about Dominic Solanke?

He's in exceptional form for Bournemouth at the moment but is tied down to a long-term deal and will also be very expensive.

Perhaps Arsenal's best option is a loan signing, with Dusan Vlahovic's name being mentioned.

Yet he's scored just 23 league goals in the last two-and-a-half years.

Can Arteta rely on Vlahovic to score their goals?

Probably not.

It's a tough situation for Arsenal.

Chances of Toney move?

With Arsenal's season stalling, many fans would like to see them sign a striker in January.

But who are they linked with?

Ivan Toney is the name on everyone's lips, but Brentford are determined to keep hold of him with Bryan Mbeumo nursing a serious ankle injury.

Yoane Wissa will also head off to the Ivory Coast soon to represent DR Congo at the Africa Cup of Nations.

If Arsenal want to sign Toney, who has 18 months left on his deal, they will need to offer Brentford a huge amount of cash - perhaps more than £100million.

Swoop for Man Utd star?

Mary Earps has entered the final six months of her contract at Manchester United - putting Arsenal on red alert.

The Gunners were interested in signing the world's best goalkeeper last summer and are expected to reignite their interest if the 30-year-old becomes avaiable in January.

A move abroad is also a possibility.
