Coronation Street aired a big return for villain Damon on the ITV soap this evening, as fans rumble a connection between the evil resident and Sarah's daughter Bethany Platt

Coronation Street fans have rumbled a link between Damon Hay and Bethany Platt as they both returned this New Year.

Some viewers are convinced the pair's almost in sync returns to Weatherfield must be because they already know each other. Damon was last seen on the Cobbles a few months back, with Sarah Platt no doubt hopeful she had got rid of him.

However, it was recently confirmed he was heading back to Weatherfield as he had some unfinished business to deal with. Tonight, he had Sarah's ex partner Adam Barlow kidnapped - but what does Damon want?

Separately, Lucy Fallon - who plays Bethany Platt - is making a return to the Cobbles and tonight, her mum was overjoyed to see her back in their hometown - but what's Bethany back for and is she hiding a secret?

Some viewers are convinced there's a connection between the pair, with one writing: "What’s the betting Damon tries to get it on with Bethany to get back at Sarah?? #Corrie," whilst a second added: "who was Bethany on the phone to?, Damon?, a different fella?, maybe even a girl? #Corrie." A third shared: "Bethany and Damon maybe? #Corrie"

Whatever happens between Damon and the Platts, the return of villain Damon won't be good news. Speaking about his return, Ciaran Griffiths - who plays Damon - said: "It's good to be back, I had a really great stint last time, I really enjoyed it and felt like I was finding my feet with the character and not feeling like the new boy anymore. I feel a lot more comfortable now with my surroundings and the people I'm working with so yeah it’s good to be back, although the weather’s awful!"

Asked why he's back, he added: "He’s definitely obsessed with trying to get Sarah back, he’s proper smitten, he’s clearly been thinking about her every day for the last few months and wants to scratch that itch. But the injustice of what Adam did to him is something he has to put right. Damon was forced to vanish without being able to say a proper goodbye to Sarah."

Elsewhere, Lucy shared her excitement at being back. Speaking about making a return to the soap, she said: "The best decision I’ve ever made, going back. It’s just the best place to work and some of my best friends work on that show, so I’m just so happy."
