Melania Trump's mum 'very ill' in hospital as former First Lady at her bedside

Donald Trump has confirmed speculation that Melania's mother, Amalija Knavs, 78, is 'very ill' revealing that the situation has been extremely tough on the family as the former First Lady spent the festive period in hospital looking after her mother.

Last night, the former President celebrated New Year's Eve with a luxurious party at his expensive Mar-a-Lago estate, in the company of an enormous crowd. However, in a saddening turn of events, he informed his followers that Melania couldn't attend the party, as she was sitting beside her mother at a nearby Miami hospital.

During the raucous night, that featured Vanilla Ice dancing on stage with a man dressed as iconic teenage mutant ninja turtle Michelangelo, Trump took a minute to address the attendees. After getting off the phone with Melania, he said: 'Hopefully, she'll be recovering. It's a tough one, a very tough one."

As the emotional crowd gathered in Palm Beach, Florida, a video captured the 77-year-old saying that Melania: 'Sends her love'. He added that his wife knows about '95 percent of the people in this room,' which resulted in enormous cheers from partygoers.

The rumours of Melania's mother's health scare initially circulated after the former model didn't appear in family Christmas images posted on social media. The pictures in question, uploaded to Instagram by Donald Trump Jr's fiance, Kimberly Guilfoyle, featured multiple members of the family, but alas, Melanie, was nowhere to be seen.

A source close to the Slovenian told Fox News Digital: "Melania has always been very devoted to her entire family. 'It should be no surprise that she spent this Christmas with her ailing mother."

The photograph, which hit the internet on Tuesday, pictured members of the family, including Don Jr. and Guilfoyle themselves, as well as Donald Trump, the youngest Trump child Barron, 17; Tiffany Trump and husband Michael Boulos; and eldest daughter Ivanka with husband Jared Kushner, their three kids, Arabella, 12, Joseph, 10, and Theodore, seven, as well as Melania's father, Viktor Knavs, in front of a Christmas tree.

Despite enduring a difficult period, Trump enjoyed the party, saying: "The New Year's Eve celebration at Mar-a-Lago was awesome. We danced, we celebrated. We had a great time." However, with the festive period coming to a close, he's set to switch his attention to regaining his place in the White House.

The 2024 presidential contender revealed that he intends to get off to a good start as early voting states Iowa and New Hampshire's GOP caucuses and primaries begin later this month.

Trump beamed: 'We are going to have a great 2024. We are going to make America Great Again!" In a bid to help her husband's campaign, Melania is set to make a plethora of public appearances alongside her other half.
